Spanish Netflix Shows For Spanish Learners
Learning a language can be tough when following the classic academic methods.
Despite having studied English since I was a kid, I realized that something was missing when I moved abroad. Even if I could read almost any type of book or written text, I could not understand spoken English on the radio. The same went for music, movies or basic conversations. The reason: I had been using the wrong methods. I’m pretty sure you are familiar with the situation.

Rated +8.5 on IMDB, it is officially one of the most-watched Netflix shows in any language. The on-demand platform revealed that over 30,000,000 accounts had tuned into the third season of the show within a week of it being released. Impressive, isn’t it?
The Money Heist revolves around a long -prepared assault on the Royal Mint of Spain. It involves eight robbers, named after big cities, led by ‘the Professor’ from a remote and secret location. The catchy Italian song “Bella Ciao” became a summer hit in Europe in 2018 because it features so heavily in the show.
Élite (Spain)
If you can´t get enough of Spanish fiction, you should also go for Élite, rated 7.5 on IMDB.
When three underprivileged students enroll in an exclusive school thanks to an internship, the clash between them and the rich students leads to murder. The cast might sound familiar, since some of the actors also appear in The Money Heist. The second season is now live, and you don’t want to miss it!
Narcos (Colombia, Mexico, and USA)
Rated +8.5 on IMDB, Narcos tells the true-life story of the infamous drug cartels and the spread of cocaine across the globe.
Pablo Escobar, founder and leader of the Medellin cartel, is the wealthiest criminal in history. When he agreed to a prison sentence in Colombia, he did so on his own terms. He constructed a luxury prison for himself which featured a jacuzzi, a football field and a waterfall!
Queen of the South (Spain, México, Colombia, and USA)
Queen of the South is rated +8 on IMDB and based on a novel published in 2002 by renowned Spanish writer Arturo Pérez Reverte.
The show tells the story of Teresa Mendoza, who has to run away to seek refuge in the US after her boyfriend, a drug dealer, is murdered in Mexico. Can you tell the difference between all the Spanish accents in the show?
Paquita Salas (Spain)
After unexpected success on Spanish television, Paquita Salas ended up on Netflix.
Rated 8 on IMDB, this comedy presents an outdated talent agent who struggles to succeed in the show business. Paquita, abandoned by her best client, is forced to reinvent herself and find new stars. born and raised in Spain, I decided to give my stable life up and make my dreams come true. I Googled jobs for traveling and moved to London before ending up in Cape Town, where I work as an English into Spanish translator for a big company. In my spare time, I freelance. It makes me really happy to write while I watch the stunning African sunsets!
