Evangelium secundum Mattheum, Mat. 13

Mat. 13

18 Vos ergo audite parabolam seminantis.

|approaching|||||||you speak| 10 And the disciples came and said to him: Why do you speak to them in parables? ||||||given||to know|mysteries||||||| 11 And he answering said to them: Because it is given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven: but to them it is not given. |||I speak|||||||||||they understand 13 Therefore I speak to them in parables: because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. |||||of Isaiah|of the one saying|hearing|you will hear|||you will understand|||you will see||| 14 And the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled in them, which says: You will hear indeed, but will not understand; and seeing you will see, but will not perceive. 15 Incrassatum est enim cor populi hujus, et auribus graviter audierunt, et oculos suos clauserunt : nequando videant oculis, et auribus audiant, et corde intelligant, et convertantur, et sanem eos. for the heart of this people has grown dull|||||of this||ears|heavily|they have heard||||they closed|lest at any time||with their eyes|||they hear|||understand||they turn||heal| 15 For the heart of this people has grown dull, and their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts and turn, so that I should heal them. |||||||||desired|||you see|||saw||||what you hear||| 17 Truly, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, and did not see it; and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.

18 Vos ergo audite parabolam seminantis. ||||of the sower 18 Therefore, hear the parable of the sower. ||||of the kingdom|||understands||||snatches||sown||||||||||sown| 19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is the one sown along the path. ||||sown|||||||||||||||||||||temporary|||tribulation||persecution|||immediately|he is scandalized 20 But he who was sown on rocky ground, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no root in himself, but is temporary; and when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, he immediately stumbles. ||||||||||||the cares|of the age|of this (age)||deceit|of riches|chokes|||||it is made 22 But he who was sown among thorns, this is he who hears the word; and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. ||||||||||||||||bears||||||||||| 23 But he who was sown on good ground, this is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

||he proposed|||like|||||||sowed||seed||field||||slept|||enemy|||sowed|tares|||wheat|| 24 Another parable he put before them, saying: The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field: 25 but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. ||had grown||||had produced||appeared|| 26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. 27 Accedentes autem servi patrisfamilias, dixerunt ei : Domine, nonne bonum semen seminasti in agro tuo ? ||servants||||||||sowed||| 27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him: Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? unde ergo habet zizania ? Where then does it have the tares? 28 Et ait illis : Inimicus homo hoc fecit. 28 And he said to them: An enemy has done this. |||||we go||we gather| But the servants said to him: Do you want us to go and gather them? |||||gathering||you will uproot|together|||| 29 And he said: No, lest perhaps gathering the tares, you root up the wheat with them. 30 Sinite utraque crescere usque ad messem, et in tempore messis dicam messoribus : Colligite primum zizania, et alligate ea in fasciculos ad comburendum : triticum autem congregate in horreum meum. let|||||||||||to the reapers|Gather||||bind|||bundles||burning|||gather||| 30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers: Gather first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn: but gather the wheat into my barn.

|||||||||grain|mustard||receiving|||||||smallest||||seeds|||it has grown|greater|||to the vegetables||||||||may come||they inhabit||from the branches| 31 He proposed another parable to them, saying: The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard, which a man took and sowed in his field: 32 which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and dwell in its branches. |||||||||yeast||taken||hidden||flour|measures||||| 33 He spoke another parable to them: The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, until it was all leavened. |||||||||||||he spoke|||it might be fulfilled|||||||I will open|||my mouth||I will utter|hidden||constitution| 34 All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables; and without a parable, He did not speak to them: 35 so that what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled, saying: I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden since the foundation of the world.

36 Tunc, dimissis turbis, venit in domum : et accesserunt ad eum discipuli ejus, dicentes : Edissere nobis parabolam zizaniorum agri. |having dismissed||||||||||||explain|||of the tares| 36 Then, when He had dismissed the crowds, He went into the house; and His disciples came to Him, saying: Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field. 37 He who answered said to them: He who sows good seed is the Son of Man. 38 Ager autem est mundus. the field||| 38 The field, however, is the world. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Tunc justi fulgebunt sicut sol in regno Patris eorum. |the righteous|will shine|||||| Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Qui habet aures audiendi, audiat. ||ears|| He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

|||||hidden|||||||||for|||||sells|all||||buys|field|it The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field; which a man finds and hides, and for joy over it goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. 45 Iterum simile est regnum cælorum homini negotiatori, quærenti bonas margaritas. ||||||merchant|seeking|good| 45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls. ||a|precious||||sold|||he had||| 46 When he had found one very precious pearl, he went away and sold all that he had and bought it.
