1 Corinthians 15

I declare|but|to you|brothers|the|gospel|which|I preached|to you|which|and|you received|in|which|and|you stand|through|which|and|you are saved|by what|word|I preached|to you|if|you hold fast|except|if|not|in vain|you believed 15:1 Now I make known to you, brothers, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. I delivered|for|to you|in|the first things|which|also|I received|that|Christ|died|for|the|sins|of us|according to|the|scriptures|and|that|he was buried|and|that|he was raised|on the|third|day|according to|the|scriptures|and|that|he appeared|to Cephas|then|to the|twelve|then|he appeared|to more than|five hundred|brothers|at once|of|whom|the|most|are still alive|until|now|some|but|also|have fallen asleep|then|he appeared|to James|then|to the|apostles|all|last|but|of all|as if|to the|premature birth 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures; 5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve; 6 after that He appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; 7 then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also. ὤφθη κἀμοί. was seen|and to me 9 For I am the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 9 ἐγὼ γάρ εἰμι ὁ ἐλάχιστος τῶν ἀποστόλων, ὃς οὐκ εἰμὶ ἱκανὸς καλεῖσθαι ἀπόστολος, διότι ἐδίωξα τὴν ἐκκλησίαν τοῦ Θεοῦ. I|for|am|the|least|of the|apostles|who|not|am|worthy|to be called|apostle|because|I persecuted|the|church|of the|God 10 χάριτι δὲ Θεοῦ εἰμὶ ὅ εἰμι, καὶ ἡ χάρις αὐτοῦ ἡ εἰς ἐμὲ οὐ κενὴ ἐγενήθη, ἀλλὰ περισσότερον αὐτῶν πάντων ἐκοπίασα· οὐκ ἐγὼ δέ, ἀλλ̓ ἡ χάρις τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡ σὺν ἐμοί. grace|but|of God|I am|what|I am|and|the|grace|of him|the|towards|me|not|in vain|was|but|more|than them|all|I labored|not|I|but|but|the|grace|of|God|the|with|me 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain, but I labored more abundantly than they all; yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. 11 εἴτε οὖν ἐγώ, εἴτε ἐκεῖνοι, οὕτω κηρύσσομεν, καὶ οὕτως ἐπιστεύσατε. whether|then|I|whether|they|so|we preach|and|so|you believed 11 Therefore, whether it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed. If|but|Christ|is preached|that|from|dead|has been raised|how|do they say|some|among|you|that|resurrection|of the dead|not|is|If|but|resurrection|of the dead|not|is|neither|Christ|has been raised|If|but|Christ|not|has been raised|vain|therefore|the|preaching|of us|vain|and|also|the|faith|of you 12 Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. 14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is vain, and your faith is also vain. 15 εὑρισκόμεθα δὲ καὶ ψευδομάρτυρες τοῦ Θεοῦ, ὅτι ἐμαρτυρήσαμεν κατὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ ὅτι ἤγειρε τὸν Χριστόν, ὃν οὐκ ἤγειρεν, εἴπερ ἄρα νεκροὶ οὐκ ἐγείρονται. we are found|but|and|false witnesses|of|God|that|we testified|against|of|God|that|raised|the|Christ|whom|not|raised|if|then|the dead|not|are raised 15 Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up, if in fact the dead do not rise. 16 εἰ γὰρ νεκροὶ οὐκ ἐγείρονται, οὐδὲ Χριστὸς ἐγήγερται· 17 εἰ δὲ Χριστὸς οὐκ ἐγήγερται, ματαία ἡ πίστις ὑμῶν· ἔτι ἐστὲ ἐν ταῖς ἁμαρτίαις ὑμῶν. if|for|the dead|not|are raised|nor|Christ|was raised|if|but|Christ|not|was raised|vain|the|faith|of you|still|you are|in|the|sins|of you 16 For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. 17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. 18 ἄρα καὶ οἱ κοιμηθέντες ἐν Χριστῷ ἀπώλοντο. therefore|and|the|who have fallen asleep|in|Christ|perished 18 Then those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 εἰ ἐν τῇ ζωῇ ταύτῃ ἠλπικότες ἐσμὲν ἐν Χριστῷ μόνον, ἐλεεινότεροι πάντων ἀνθρώπων ἐσμέν. if|in|the|life|this|having hoped|we are|in|Christ|only|more pitiable|of all|men|we are 19 If in this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.

Now|but|Christ|has been raised|from|the dead|the firstfruits|of the|those who have fallen asleep|he became 15:20 But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 ἐπειδὴ γὰρ δἰ ἀνθρώπου ὁ θάνατος, καὶ δἰ ἀνθρώπου ἀνάστασις νεκρῶν. since|for|through|man|the|death|and|through|man|resurrection|of the dead 21 For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. 22 ὥσπερ γὰρ ἐν τῷ Ἀδὰμ πάντες ἀποθνήσκουσιν, οὕτω καὶ ἐν τῷ Χριστῷ πάντες ζωοποιηθήσονται. just as|for|in|the|Adam|all|die|so|also|in|the|Christ|all|will be made alive 22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 ἕκαστος δὲ ἐν τῷ ἰδίῳ τάγματι· ἀπαρχὴ Χριστός, ἔπειτα οἱ Χριστοῦ ἐν τῇ παρουσίᾳ αὐτοῦ. each|but|in|the|own|order|firstfruits|Christ|afterward|those|of Christ|in|the|coming|of him 23 But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. 24 εἶτα τὸ τέλος, ὅταν παραδῷ τὴν βασιλείαν τῷ Θεῷ καὶ πατρί, ὅταν καταργήσῃ πᾶσαν ἀρχὴν καὶ πᾶσαν ἐξουσίαν καὶ δύναμιν. then|the|end|when|he delivers|the|kingdom|to the|God|and|to the Father|when|he abolishes|every|rule|and|every|authority|and|power 24 Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father, after destroying every rule and every authority and power. 25 δεῖ γὰρ αὐτὸν βασιλεύειν, ἄχρις οὗ ἂν θῇ πάντας τοὺς ἐχθροὺς ὑπὸ τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ. it is necessary|for|him|to reign|until|where|whenever|he places|all|the|enemies|under|the|feet|of him 25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26 ἔσχατος ἐχθρὸς καταργεῖται ὁ θάνατος. last|enemy|will be abolished|the|death 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death. All|for|he subjected|under|the|feet|of him 27 For God has put all things in subjection under his feet. ὅταν δὲ εἴπῃ ὅτι Πάντα ὑποτέτακται, δῆλον ὅτι ἐκτὸς τοῦ ὑποτάξαντος αὐτῷ τὰ πάντα. when|but|he says|that|all things|are subjected|clear|that|outside|of the|one who subjected|to him|the|all things But when he says that all things are subjected, it is clear that all things are outside of the one who subjected them. 28 ὅταν δὲ ὑποταγῇ αὐτῷ τὰ πάντα, τότε καὶ αὐτὸς ὁ υἱὸς ὑποταγήσεται τῷ ὑποτάξαντι αὐτῷ τὰ πάντα, ἵνα ᾖ ὁ Θεὸς τὰ πάντα ἐν πᾶσιν. when|but|is subjected|to him|the|all things|then|and|he|the|son|will be subjected|to the|having subjected|to him|the|all things|so that|he may be|the|God|the|all things|in|all When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to the one who subjected all things to him, so that God may be all in all.

If the dead are not raised at all, why are they baptized for them? And why are we in danger every hour? I die every day, I affirm, by the pride in you, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord. If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus with no more than human hopes, what have I gained? If the dead are not raised, let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die. 33 μὴ πλανᾶσθε· Φθείρουσιν ἤθη χρήσθ̓ ὁμιλίαι κακαί. do not|be deceived|corrupt|morals|used|associations|bad Do not be deceived: Bad company corrupts good character. 34 ἐκνήψατε δικαίως, καὶ μὴ ἁμαρτάνετε· ἀγνωσίαν γὰρ Θεοῦ τινες ἔχουσι· πρὸς ἐντροπὴν ὑμῖν λέγω. you should be sober-minded|righteously|and|not|sin|ignorance|for|of God|some|have|for|shame|to you|I say Come to your senses and stop sinning; for some have no knowledge of God.
