今 また カリフォルニア は コロナ の パンデミック に よって ロックダウン が 各地 で 発令 されて います 。 今回 の Stay at Home オーダー は カリフォルニア を 大きな ブロック で 分けて 、 ICU 集中 治療室 の 空き 状況 が 切迫 してくる と 、州 から オーダー が 発令 されます 。 具体的に は キャパ の 15％ 以下 に なったら です ね 。

私 が 住む Monterey County , Monterey 郡 は サンフランシスコ や シリコンバレー など と 一緒の Bay Area に ひとまとめ に なってます 。 ちょっと ね 、 Bay Area と は 違う と 思う んです が 、まあ そういう 設定 な のであれ ですけど 。

Bay Area は まだ その ICU の キャパ に は 余裕 が ある んです が 、各地 で 自主的に Stay at Home を 始めて まして 、

ほら 、12月 で ね 、クリスマス 、ホリデーシーズン な ので 、みんな 浮かれ ポンチ に なっちゃう わけです よ 。

それ を 沈めよう と いう 作戦 です ね 。

Monterey も ついに その オーダー が 出 まして 、 静かな ホリデーシーズン 、 年 末 に なり そう です 。

って 言って も ね 、私 たち は 夫婦 2人 、アメリカ に 家族 や 親戚 が いる わけで も なく 、 Family Gathering も 特に ないで すし 、

まあ 毎年 年 末 と いえば San Diego の 友人 カップル の ところ に 数 日間 遊び に 行って いた のです が 、それ が 無くなる と いう くらい で 、

家 で ね 、のんびり できる こと を 楽しもう か な と いった ところ です 。

皆さん の クリスマス 、年末年始 は どんな 感じ に なりそうです か ？

例年 通り と は どうしても いか ない でしょう けど ね 、平和に 、心 穏やかに 年末 、そして 新しい 年 を 迎える こと が できる と いい です ね 。

日本 だ と ドーナツ 買おうって 思った 時 、どこ が 思い浮かびます か ？ たぶん 満場 一致 で ミスド だ と 思う んです けど 、私 も ね 、ミスド と 共に 育って 来ました から 。 いや ー 、 美味しい です よ ね 、 ミスド 、って いう か 懐かしい ！ ミスド 食べたい な ー 。 ミスド 嫌いな 人 なんて いない でしょ 、ミスド 食べた こと ない 人 も いない んじゃないって くらい 、国民的 ドーナツ屋 だ と 思う んです が 、 あと ミスド 以外 って 言ったら 、 クリスピークリーム です か ね 。

いつ でしたっけ 、日本 に 上陸 した の 。 すごく 話題 に なりました よ ね 。 今 でも 調子 いい の か な 。 全然 私 今 の 状況 知ら ない んです が 、どう な んですか ね 。

他 に 有名な ドーナツ 屋 あります か ？ あんまり 私 思い浮かば ないで す けど 。

まあ 、いくつか それ でも 関西 とか 広島 とか に 店舗 ある んです ね 。 でも 全然 そんなに 規模 は 大きく ない です ね 。

と いう こと で 、ドーナツ と いえば ミスド 、か 、クリスピークリーム 、

あと は 地元 に ね オシャレ な 可愛い 個人 経営 の 、なんか こだわり の ドーナツ 売ってます …みたいな ところ も ある かも しれません が 。 そんな 感じ です よ ね 。

一方 、アメリカ の ドーナツ 市場 、ドーナツ 環境 と いう の は 、

まず 、大手 も もちろん 結構 あります 。 KrispyKreme、アメリカ です から ね 、もちろん あります し 、 あと Dunkin'Donuts。 Dunkinね 、うち の 近く に ない んです よ 。 だから 私 行った こと ない の 。 ちょっと 一 度 くらい は 行って みたいです よね 。

アメリカ 全土 で 展開 している 本当に 有名 、誰 でも 聞いたこと あるっていう のは こんな もんか な 、 でも アメリカ 広い です から ね 。 エリア に よって 他 に も チェーン 店 が たくさん あって 、

例えば カリフォルニア だ と 、 Winchell って いう お店 が あって 、これ は うち の 近く に も あって 何回 か 行った こと あります 。 で 、でも 、そういう 大きな チェーン 店 とは 別に どこ の 町 に も 、町の 小さな ドーナツ 屋 みたいな の が 絶対 ある んです よ 。

個人 経営 で 、まあ 近隣 に 数 店舗 持って いる って いう ところ は ある でしょう けど 、 その ー 、 The チェーン 店って 感じ で は なくて 、 個人 で やってますって いう 雰囲気 が バンバン 出てる 感じ の 。 特徴 として は 、

日本 だ と 個人 で やってる ドーナツ 屋 が ある と する と 、イメージ 的に ちょっと 材料 に こだわってたり 、めっちゃ オシャレ とか 、 ナチュラルな 自然 派 ドーナツ と かね 、 逆に 何 か ポップな 今 ドキ の 、 映える 系 の ね オリジナルドーナツ 売ってます と か 、 そういう 、ちょっと 違う ワン レベル 上 の ドーナツ屋 を イメージする と思う んです けど 、

アメリカ の 、その 今回 話して いる 個人 経営 の 町 の ドーナツ 屋って 、 全然 オシャレ とか じゃ なくて 、こだわり …なんか ある の か な ？ って ほど 、

ドーナツ の ラインナップ も そして 基本 の レシピ も みんな 同じ じゃ ない ？ みたいな 、

どこ も 同じ ようなって いう か 、ほぼ 同じ 、王道 の ドーナツ が 売ってて 、美味しい んです よ 、美味しい んです けど 、 特筆 する 、うわ ！ 何 この ドーナツ ！ Thebestdonutseverみたいな 感動 とか は なく 、

合格 点 は ね 、出して くる んです けど 、

よく ある ドーナツ ね 。 みたいな 。

そんな 感じ です 。

全米 ドーナツ 協会 が 、ドーナツ屋 を 開きたい 人 に レシピ から 機材 から 一式 提供 している の か な 。 って ほど 、同じ 感じ な んです よ 。

もちろん 、お店 に よって は 、内装 と か ちょっと オシャレ に ね してたり 、

味 だって 他の お 店 より も 揚げ方 が 上手くて 、何だか 美味しい って ところ も あります が 、 基本 、言い方 悪い と 、どこも 似たり寄ったり というか 、変わりばえしない というか 、

すごく マイナス に 聞こえる かも です けど 、いわゆる 安心 感 も あって 、どこ の 町 に 行って も 、同じ ような 町 の ドーナツ 屋さん って いう 感じ で 。 これ 、 私 が 知らない だけ で 、 実は 全部 が 、 その ー 全 米 ドーナツ 協会 が 牛耳って いる フランチャイズ と か だったり して 。

地域 に も よる でしょう けど 、

私 の 感覚 だ と 、私 が 住む カリフォルニア の セントラルコースト や その 北側 、ベイ エリア で は 、ベトナム や フィリピン 系 の 人 が 何故 か ドーナツ 屋 を やっている こと が 多い 気 が します 。 うち の 周り も そう だ し 、なんか ファミリー ビジネス で やっている 方たち が 見ている と 多い です ね 。

あと 以前 オークランド の あたり か な 、結構 北側 のどっか の 町 で 同じ ような ドーナツ 屋 に 行った 時 も 、たぶん ですけど 、ベトナム系 の 方 が やってた と 思います 。 ベトナム か 、 South East Asia 系 の 。

横 の 繋がり と いう か 、同じ 出身地 で の その ビジネスノウハウ の 共有 とかって ある んでしょうね 。

ドーナツ に 関して は 、たぶん 全米 ドーナツ 協会 から レシピ が 来て いる んじゃないかって くらい 、どこ も 同じ ラインナップ 、同じ 味 何 ですけど 、 ドーナツプラスアルファ で 、店 ごと に なんか 色 を 出して いこう と して いる の が 伺えて 、

よく ある の が 、マフィン 系 を 一緒に 売って いたり 、ベーグル や クロワッサン 、普通の トースト など で 作る サンドイッチ を 売って いたり です ね 。

ドーナツ だけ って いう より は 、何 か 他 に も 売っている こと が 多い です 。 Asia 系 の 方 が 経営 している お店 だ と ボバ が 売ってたり 、ボバって あれ です ね 、タピオカ です ね 。 あと は うち の 周り の ドーナツ屋 で は 揚げ 春巻き が 売ってます 。 コンビニ の レジ 横 に 唐揚げくん とか 置いて ある ような 感じ で 、春巻き が 置いて あります 。 ベトナム だったら Egg roll だし ね 、フィリピン だったら rumpia で ね 、似た ような 春巻き が 存在する んです が 、それ です ね 。

すごく 特色 が 出て います ね 。 前 に 住んで いた 、リトル メキシコ の ような 、メキシコ人 が 多く 住む 町 の ドーナツ屋 で は 、

これ また 、ドーナツ は 同じ な んです が 、

でも プラス で メキシコ の パン が たくさん 売って いました ね 。 メキシコ の パン って 、私 から する と めっちゃ ドライ で 、そんなに 美味しく ない んです けど 、メキシカン たち は 大好き で 、 そういう エリア の 需要 と かも 取り入れてる ドーナツ 屋 も 多い です ね 。

と まあ 個人 経営 の ドーナツ 屋 が 多い んです が 、

もう 1 点 、今回 お 話したい の が 、どこ の ドーナツ 屋 も 売る スタイル が 同じ で 、 日本 の ケーキ屋さん みたいな 感じ で ガラス ケース に ドーナツ が ズラーっと 並んでいて 、あ 、ミスド も 同じ か 。 で 、店員さん に 買いたい ドーナツ と 個数 を 伝えて 箱 に 入れて いって もらう んです けど 、 各 ドーナツ の ね 、名前 が 書いて ない んです よ 。 一切 。

ミスド だったら 商品 名 と 値段 が 書かれた プレート が あって 、そこ に ドーナツ が 並んでる と 思う んです が 、

そして それほど 冒険 を し ない と いう か 、同じ ような もの を 食べる ので 、
