1Jo, Kapitel 3
1Jo, Chapter 3
"See" or "Behold"|"what great"|"love"|||Father||||"be called"||"we may be"
1 Behold what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called and be the children of God.
||world||"knows" or "recognizes"|us|because||knows|
For this reason, the world does not know us: because it did not know Him.
2 Carissimi, nunc filii Dei sumus : et nondum apparuit quid erimus.
Beloved ones||||||not yet|"has appeared"||we will be
2 Beloved, now we are the children of God: and it has not yet appeared what we shall be.
"We know"|||"has appeared"|we shall be like|"to him"|"we will be"|"because"|we will see||"as he is"|"he is"
We know that when he appears, we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.
||||this||||"purifies"|||||holy|
And everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.
|||||iniquity|||||lawlessness
Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.
||||||||"might take away"||||||
5 And you know that he appeared to take away our sins: and there is no sin in him.
||||||sins||||sins||has seen|||"has known"|
6 Everyone who abides in him does not sin: and everyone who sins has not seen him, nor known him.
7 Filioli, nemo vos seducat.
|||deceive
7 Little children, let no one deceive you.
He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as he is righteous.
||||the devil|||||the devil|
8 Whoever commits sin is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning.
|||Son|||"might destroy"||"of the devil"
The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.
|||||God|||||seed|"of him"|||remains in him|||||||God||
9 No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God.
10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil.
|||"is"|||||||||||||||proclamation||||||"you love"|"one another"|||"like Cain"|||"the evil one"|||kills||
Everyone who is not righteous is not of God, and whoever does not love his brother: 11 because this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that you should love one another. 12 Not as Cain, who was of the wicked one, and killed his brother.
Et propter quid occidit eum ?
And why did he kill him?
Quoniam opera ejus maligna erant : fratris autem ejus, justa.13 Nolite mirari, fratres, si odit vos mundus.14 Nos scimus quoniam translati sumus de morte ad vitam, quoniam diligimus fratres.
|||"evil"||"of the brother"|||"Just" or "righteous"||marvel|brothers|||you|||"We know"||"transferred" or "passed over"|||death||||"we love"|brothers
Because his works were evil: but his brother's were just. Do not marvel, brothers, if the world hates you. We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren.
|||||||||||murderer|
Whoever does not love abides in death: everyone who hates his brother is a murderer.

And you know that every murderer does not have eternal life abiding in himself. By this we know love of God, that he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. Whoever has the goods of this world and sees his brother in need, and shuts his heart from him: how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth: by this we know that we are of the truth: and shall assure our hearts before him. For if our heart condemns us: God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God: and whatever we ask, we receive from him: because we keep his commandments and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. And this is his commandment: that we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ: and love one another, as he gave us commandment. And he who keeps his commandments abides in him, and he in him: and by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us.
