Taking a Family Road Trip | National Geographic

(calm music)

- [Corey] I feel most alive when I'm out exploring.

(acoustic music)

We're taking our son on a road trip

to Wallowa-Whitman National Forest in Eastern Oregon.

There's something special about looking out

on the open road.

You never really know

what's around that next corner.

- You signed up for KnowYourDrive right?

- Yep, now we have hotel or rental car coverage

if we need it.

- Hey guys. Hey Wolfie!

- Wanna see some animals?

- [Cory] My whole life I've always

put myself in situations that challenge me

and so for me being a father

is the most beautiful next step.

The love is so powerful.

Helping a child shape his big picture of the world

is very exciting.

(hopeful music)

Road trips are an amazing part of the human experience.

It's kind of the best way to travel as a family.

It's really all about making the most of the journey.

(hopeful music)

My father taught me to fish as a child.

It was a really special bonding moment for us.

And I really want my son to experience that same thing.

We try to not give him too many boundaries

but always keep him safe.

Being outdoors, he can learn and adventure

and not feel we're holding him back.

Put a big boulder in front of him

and he's going to start climbing it.

Road trips have definitely brought

my family closer together.

You have a lot of time to really connect.

I feel like Wolfie got a really unique experience up here.

My hope is that Wolfie develops

a deep connection with nature

and then hopefully he can pass that on to his kids someday.
