Ad Romanos, Rom 10

Rom 10

10 1 Brethren, indeed the will of my heart, and the supplication to God, is done for them for salvation. 2 For I bear witness to them that they have an emulation of God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For being ignorant of God's justice, and seeking to establish their own, they are not subject to God's justice. 4 For the end of the law, Christ, is for righteousness to every believer.

5 Moyses enim scripsit, quoniam justitiam, quæ ex lege est, qui fecerit homo, vivet in ea. 5 For Moses wrote that whoever does righteousness, which is from the law, lives in it. 6 Quæ autem ex fide est justitia, sic dicit : Ne dixeris in corde tuo : Quis ascendet in cælum ? 6 And the righteousness which is by faith says thus: Do not say in your heart: Who will ascend into heaven? id est, Christum deducere : 7 aut, Quis descendet in abyssum ? that is, to bring Christ down: 7 or, Who will descend into the abyss? hoc est, Christum a mortuis revocare. that is, to raise Christ from the dead. 8 Sed quid dicit Scriptura ? 8 But what does the Scripture say? The word is near in your mouth and in your heart: this is the word of faith that we preach. 9 Quia si confitearis in ore tuo Dominum Jesum, et in corde tuo credideris quod Deus illum suscitavit a mortuis, salvus eris. 9 Because if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart it is believed unto righteousness: but with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says: Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame. 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek: for the Lord of all is the same, rich in all who call upon him. 13 Omnis enim quicumque invocaverit nomen Domini, salvus erit. 13 For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

14 Quomodo ergo invocabunt, in quem non crediderunt ? 14 How then shall they call upon him in whom they have not believed? aut quomodo credent ei, quem non audierunt ? or how shall they believe him whom they have not heard? quomodo autem audient sine prædicante ? 15 quomodo vero prædicabunt nisi mittantur ? 15 But how will they preach unless they are sent? sicut scriptum est : Quam speciosi pedes evangelizantium pacem, evangelizantium bona ! as it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who evangelize peace, who evangelize good things! 16 Sed non omnes obediunt Evangelio. 16 But not all obey the Gospel. Isaias enim dicit : Domine, quis credidit auditui nostro ? For Isaiah says: Lord, who has believed what we heard? 17 Therefore faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. 18 Sed dico : Numquid non audierunt ? 18 But I say: Have they not heard? Et quidem in omnem terram exivit sonus eorum, et in fines orbis terræ verba eorum. And indeed their sound went out into all the earth, and their words to the ends of the earth. 19 Sed dico : Numquid Israël non cognovit ? 19 But I say: Did not Israel know? Primus Moyses dicit : Ego ad æmulationem vos adducam in non gentem : in gentem insipientem, in iram vos mittam. The first Moses says: I will bring you to rivalry among a non-nation: I will send you into a foolish nation, into anger. 20 Isaias autem audet, et dicit : Inventus sum a non quærentibus me : palam apparui iis qui me non interrogabant. 20 But Isaiah dares and says: I was found by those who did not seek me: I appeared openly to those who did not ask me. 21 Ad Israël autem dicit : Tota die expandi manus meas ad populum non credentem, et contradicentem. 21 And to Israel he says: All day long I have spread my hands to the people who do not believe and contradict.
