9 1 But Saul, still breathing threats and murders against the Lord's disciples, approached the chief priest, 2 and asked him for letters to Damascus to the synagogues, so that if he found any men and women of this way, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.
||||It happened that|||Damascus||suddenly|shone around||light||
3 And as he was making his journey, it happened that he was approaching Damascus: and suddenly a light from heaven shone around him.
4 Et cadens in terram audivit vocem dicentem sibi : Saule, Saule, quid me persequeris ?
|falling|||||||Saul|Saul|||are you persecuting
4 And falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him: Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?
5 Qui dixit : Quis es, domine ?
5 He said: Who are you, Lord?
Et ille : Ego sum Jesus, quem tu persequeris : durum est tibi contra stimulum calcitrare.
||||||||hard|||against the|goad|"to kick against"
And he said: I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting: it is hard for you to kick against the goads.
6 Et tremens ac stupens dixit : Domine, quid me vis facere ?
|trembling||astonished||||||
6 And trembling and amazed he said: Lord, what do you want me to do?
||||||enter the city||||"will be told"||||must|
7 And the Lord said to him: Get up and enter the city, and there you will be told what you must do.
||||were accompanying|||were standing|astonished||indeed||||
And those men who accompanied him stood astonished, hearing indeed the voice, but seeing no one.
|||||opened|||he was seeing
8 And Saul arose from the ground, and opened his eyes and saw nothing.
Ad manus autem illum trahentes, introduxerunt Damascum.
||||pulling him|they introduced|
And taking him by the hand, they brought him into Damascus.
|||||||||he ate||
9 And he was there three days without seeing, and neither ate nor drank.
|||"disciple"|of Damascus||Ananias||||||"in a vision"||
10 Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias: and the Lord said to him in a vision: Ananias.
At ille ait : Ecce ego, Domine.
And he said: Behold, here I am, Lord.
||||||||"the street"|||Straight||seek|||Jude|Saul||of Tarsus|||he is praying
11 And the Lord said to him: Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight: and inquire in the house of Judas for one named Saul of Tarsus: for behold, he is praying.
|||Ananias||entering||"laying on"||||sight|may regain sight
12 (And he saw a man named Ananias entering and laying hands on him so that he might receive his sight.)
13 Respondit autem Ananias : Domine, audivi a multis de viro hoc, quanta mala fecerit sanctis tuis in Jerusalem : 14 et hic habet potestatem a principibus sacerdotum alligandi omnes qui invocant nomen tuum.
||||||||||||he has done|your saints|||||||||chief priests||"to bind"|||"call upon"||
13 And Ananias answered: Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he has done to your saints in Jerusalem: 14 and he has the power of the chief priests to bind all who invoke your name.
|||||||chosen instrument|"of choice"|||||"carry"|||"in the presence of"|||"and kings"|||
15 And the Lord said to him: Go, for this is a vessel of my choice, that he may bear my name before the nations, and kings, and the children of Israel.
||"I will show"|||"he must"|||||
16 For I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.
||||||||placing on||||||||||||||||"you were coming"||you may see||"be filled"||
17 And Ananias went and entered the house: and laying hands on him, he said: Brother Saul, the Lord has sent me Jesus, who appeared to you on the road on which you were coming, that you may see and be filled with the Holy Spirit.

18 And immediately they fell from his eyes like scales, and he received his sight: and rising up, he was baptized.
19 Et cum accepisset cibum, confortatus est.
||"had received"||was strengthened|
19 And when he had received food, he was strengthened.
|||the disciples||||||"some days"
He was with the disciples who were in Damascus for several days.
20 Et continuo in synagogis prædicabat Jesum, quoniam hic est Filius Dei.
|immediately||the synagogues|he preached||||||
20 And immediately in the synagogues he preached Jesus, because this is the Son of God.
||||were hearing||||this one here|||was destroying|||||call upon||||"to here"||"for this purpose"|||"the bound"||lead|||
21 And all who heard were amazed, and said: Is not this he who attacked in Jerusalem those who invoked that name, and he came here for this purpose, to lead those bound to the chief priests?
|||"more" or "much more"|"was growing stronger"||"confounded" or "confused"|the Jews||were living||affirming||||
22 But Saul grew stronger, and confounded the Jews who lived in Damascus, affirming that this is the Christ.

23 Now when many days were fulfilled, the Jews made a plan together to kill him.

25 And when the disciples received him by night, they let him go over the wall, putting him in a basket.
||had come|||"was trying"||"to join"|||||||believing|||
26 But when he came to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, and they all feared him, not believing that he was a disciple.
||"took him"||he brought||||he told|||||||||"had spoken"|||||||"with confidence"|"had acted"|||
27 But Barnabas, apprehending him, led him to the apostles: and he told them how he had seen the Lord on the road, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had acted faithfully in Damascus in the name of Jesus.
||||||going out||||acting confidently||||
28 And he was with them going in and going out of Jerusalem, and acting faithfully in the name of the Lord.
||||"was debating with"||the Greeks|||were seeking|"to kill him"|
29 He also spoke to the Gentiles, and disputed with the Greeks: but they sought to kill him.

30 When the brothers learned this, they brought him to Caesarea and released him to Tarsus.

31 The church indeed had peace throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria, and was being built up, walking in the fear of the Lord, and being filled with the consolation of the Holy Spirit.
|||||while|"was passing through"|all the people|"came to"||the saints|||Lydda
32 And it came to pass that while Peter was passing through the whole world, he came to the saints who dwelt in Lydda.
||||a certain man||Aeneas||||lying||bed|||paralyzed man
33 He found there a certain man named Aeneas, who had been lying on a bed for eight years, who was paralyzed.
34 Et ait illi Petrus : Ænea, sanat te Dominus Jesus Christus : surge, et sterne tibi.
||||Aeneas|heals|||||||make your bed|
34 And Peter said to him: Aeneas, the Lord Jesus Christ heals you: get up and make yourself a mat.
Et continuo surrexit.
|"immediately"|"he/she/it rose"
||||||||Saron||turned|||
35 And all who dwelt in Lydda and Sarona saw him: they were converted to the Lord.
36 In Joppe autem fuit quædam discipula, nomine Tabitha, quæ interpretata dicitur Dorcas.

36 Now there was a certain disciple in Joppa, named Tabitha, which is interpreted as Dorcas.
Hæc erat plena operibus bonis et eleemosynis quas faciebat.

This was full of good works and alms which he did.
|||||||"became ill"|"she died"
37 And it came to pass in those days that she died of sickness.
Quam cum lavissent, posuerunt eam in cœnaculo.

When they had washed it, they placed it in the upper room.

38 But when Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him, asking them: Do not be slow to come to us.

And when he arrived, they led him into the upper room: and all the widows stood around him weeping, and showing him the tunics and garments which Dorcas had made for them.

40 And when they were all cast out, Peter kneeled down and prayed: and turning to the body, he said: Tabitha, arise.
At illa aperuit oculos suos : et viso Petro, resedit.

But she opened her eyes, and seeing Peter, sat down.

And when he had called the saints and widows, he set her alive.
42 And it became known throughout Joppa: and many believed in the Lord.
||||||"he stayed"||||Simon the tanner|a certain|leather worker
43 And it came to pass that he tarried many days in Joppa, with Simon a certain tanner.
