Epistola B. Joannis Apostoli Prima, 1Jo, Caput 4

1Jo, Caput 4

||||to believe||"test"|spirit||||"are from God"|||false prophets|"have gone out"|| 1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test whether the spirits are from God: since many false prophets have gone out into the world. ||"is known"||||||confesses||||flesh|"has come"||||||||"does not confess"||||||||||||"you heard"|"that"|"he comes"||"now"|"already"||"in the world"|"is from God" 2 In this the Spirit of God is known: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God: 3 and every spirit that looses Jesus is not of God, and this is the antichrist, of whom you have heard that he is coming, and is now already in the world it is. 4 Vos ex Deo estis filioli, et vicistis eum, quoniam major est qui in vobis est, quam qui in mundo. |||"you are"|||"have overcome"|||||||||||| 4 You are from God, little children, and you have overcome him, because he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They themselves||||"For this reason"|||speak||||hears 5 They are of the world: therefore they speak of the world, and the world hears them. 6 Nos ex Deo sumus. 6 We are from God. ||||||||||||||||the Spirit|"of truth"||spirit|of error He who knows God hears us; he that is not of God heareth us not: in this we know the Spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

Beloved ones||"one another"|one another|because|love||| 7 Beloved, let us love one another: for charity is of God. |||||||||"knows"||||||||"Because" or "since"||Love|||||||||for|||only-begotten||||||"we may live"||||||||||"we loved"|God|"but"|"Because" or "since"||prior|loves||||||Atonement for sins||||||||loves||||||||no one|saw|ever And everyone who loves is born of God, and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, because God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has seen God at any time. |we love|one another||||||||||perfect||||We know|"because" or "that"|||we remain|||||||||||||||we testify||||||Savior of the||whoever|"has confessed"|he will be||||||||||||||||||We believed|"To love"||||| If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as the Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. And we have come to know and believe the love that God has for us. |Love||||||Love||||||||||||Love||||||||of judgment||"sicut" in this context translates to "as" or "just as."||||||||World|Timor|||||||||"Drives out"|fear|"Because"|fear|punishment|||||||Perfected||charity|||we love|||||||||"shall say"||Love|||||Hates|| God is love: and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. In this, the love of God has been perfected with us, that we may have confidence in the day of judgment: because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love: but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment; but he who fears has not been made perfect in love. We love Him because He first loved us. If someone says, 'I love God,' and hates his brother, he is a liar. ||||||"whom"|"has seen"||||"has seen"||||||||||||||"Love" or "cherish"||| For he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? 21 And we have this commandment from God: that he who loves God should also love his brother.
