Capitolo 32

Il giorno dopo Pinocchio va alla scuola del paese.

Appena lo vedono i ragazzi iniziano a ridere perché non hanno mai visto un burattino andare a scuola. All'inizio Pinocchio non reagisce e va via, ma alla fine perde la pazienza e dice aggressivo a quelli che lo prendono in giro:

− Attenti, ragazzi! Io non sono venuto qui per essere il vostro buffone. Io rispetto gli altri e voglio essere rispettato.

− Bravo! Hai parlato come un libro stampato! − urlano quei monelli, ridendo come matti, e uno di loro allunga la mano per prendere la punta del naso del burattino.

Ma non fa in tempo: perché Pinocchio gli tira un bel calcio sulla gamba.

E anche il maestro è contento, perché lo vede attento, studioso, intelligente, sempre il primo a entrare nella scuola, e sempre l'ultimo ad alzarsi in piedi quando la lezione è finita.

Il suo unico difetto è forse quello di frequentare troppi compagni: e fra questi ci sono molti monelli conosciutissimi per la loro poca voglia di studiare.

Il maestro lo avverte tutti i giorni, e anche la buona Fata gli dice spesso:

− Attento, Pinocchio! Quei tuoi cattivi compagni di scuola ti faranno perdere l'amore per lo studio e, forse forse, ti porteranno sfortuna e ti succederà qualcosa di brutto.
