18 Liberati autem a peccato, servi facti estis justitiæ. 22 Nunc vero liberati a peccato, servi autem facti Deo, habetis fructum vestrum in sanctificationem, finem vero vitam æternam. 23 Stipendia enim peccati, mors. Gratia autem Dei, vita æterna, in Christo Jesu Domino nostro.

6 1 Quid ergo dicemus ? 6 1 What then shall we say? permanebimus in peccato ut gratia abundet ? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Absit. For we who are dead to sin, how shall we still live in it? 3 an ignoratis quia quicumque baptizati sumus in Christo Jesu, in morte ipsius baptizati sumus ? 3 Do you not know that whoever is baptized into Christ Jesus, we are baptized into his death? 4 For we have been buried with him by baptism into death: that as Christ rose from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted in the similitude of his death, we shall be at the same time in the resurrection. 6 Knowing this, because our old man was crucified together, that the body of sin might be destroyed, and that we should no longer serve sin. 7 For he who died was justified from sin. 8 But if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live together with Christ, 9 knowing that Christ rising from the dead no longer dies: death will no longer dominate him. 10 Quod enim mortuus est peccato, mortuus est semel : quod autem vivit, vivit Deo. 10 For what died to sin died once: but what lives, lives to God. 11 Ita et vos existimate vos mortuos quidem esse peccato, viventes autem Deo, in Christo Jesu Domino nostro. 11 So you also think that you are indeed dead to sin, but alive to God, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

12 Therefore sin does not reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts. 13 Sed neque exhibeatis membra vestra arma iniquitatis peccato : sed exhibete vos Deo, tamquam ex mortuis viventes : et membra vestra arma justitiæ Deo. 13 But do not present your members as weapons of iniquity to sin, but present yourselves to God as living from the dead, and your members as weapons of righteousness to God. 14 Peccatum enim vobis non dominabitur : non enim sub lege estis, sed sub gratia. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for you are not under the law, but under grace. 15 Quid ergo ? peccabimus, quoniam non sumus sub lege, sed sub gratia ? shall we sin, since we are not under the law, but under grace? Absit. Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves as slaves to obey, you are his slaves, to whom you obey, whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? 17 Thanks be to God that you were slaves of sin, and obeyed from the heart the form of doctrine into which you were delivered. 18 Liberati autem a peccato, servi facti estis justitiæ. 18 But having been freed from sin, you have become slaves of righteousness. 19 I say human, because of the infirmity of your flesh: for just as you presented your members to serve impurity, and iniquity to iniquity, so now present your members to serve righteousness for sanctification. 20 For when you were slaves to sin, you were free to righteousness. 21 Quem ergo fructum habuistis tunc in illis, in quibus nunc erubescitis ? 21 What fruit did you then have in those in which you are now ashamed? nam finis illorum mors est. for their end is death. 22 Nunc vero liberati a peccato, servi autem facti Deo, habetis fructum vestrum in sanctificationem, finem vero vitam æternam. 22 But now, freed from sin, but made servants of God, you have your fruit for sanctification, but the end is eternal life. 23 Stipendia enim peccati, mors. 23 For the wages of sin is death. Gratia autem Dei, vita æterna, in Christo Jesu Domino nostro.
