5 CHRISTIAN books you SHOULD read in 2022
Here are five life changing Christian books you should read this year.
1. The number one Christian book to read this year and probably every year is…of course the Bible.
The Bible is not only the best-selling book of all time, it is also the most read book of all time.
And for good reason. The amount of deep wisdom you can find in the Bible is truly amazing,
which can help you to make wiser decisions. You can study the Bible your entire life and there
will still be more to learn and discover. There are many different bible translations and versions
you can choose from. If you'd like to try to read the entire Bible in a year, you could listen
to the Bible in a Year podcast with Fr. Mike Schmitz, which uses the Great Adventure Bible.
2. Number 2 is Ascending with Ignatius: A 30-Day At-Home Retreat
This book is a 30-day long devotional, which is based on the Spiritual Exercises of St.
Ignatius of Loyola. The book is designed to help you grow closer to God and experience God's love
for you in a deep and personal way. 3. Book number 3 is “He Leadeth Me:
An Extraordinary Testament of Faith” by Jesuit Father Walter J. Ciszek
This book covers the amazing testimony of faith of Father Walter Ciszek. Walter Ciszek spent many
years in prisons and labor camps in the Soviet Union. In this book he takes you
on a very personal journey and show you how this experience even strengthened his faith.
Here's a quote from the book: “What can ultimately trouble the soul that accepts
every moment of every day as a gift from the hands of God and strives always to do his will?”
4. There are many Christian role models we can go back to and learn from.
If we're willing and open to look into history we can learn so much from saints
who have lived before us. We can so to speak stand on the shoulders of giants.
And some saints have even left us with written documents and books.
One of them is the Autobiogrophy of St. Therese of Lisieux, which is called “The Story of a Soul”.
Although St. Therese a Carmelite nun died at the young age of only 24, there are many great
lessons we can learn from her and her “little way of love”. Here's a quote from St. Therese:
“Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice, here by a smiling look,
there by a kindly word; always doing the smallest right and doing it all for love.”
5. This book list wouldn't be complete without a novel. There are many novels,
which help you explore virtues, themes and insights into the Christian faith.
Ranging from Lord of the Rings to Jane Austen novels. One of these amazing works of fiction
is “The Brothers Karamzov” written by Fyodor Dostoevsky. This novel explores questions of God
and morality. It also beautifully illustrates how our good and bad actions effect others.
