Matt. 17
Mat. 17
|||six|||Peter||James|||||||||||||was transfigured|||
1 And after six days Jesus took Peter, and James, and John his brother, and led them apart on a high mountain: 2 and was transfigured before them.
|shone|||||clothes|||||white||snow
And his face shone like the sun: and his garments became white as snow.
And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, speaking with him.
||||||||||||||let us make|three|tabernacles|||Moses|||Elijah|
Then Peter answered and said to Jesus: Lord, it is good for us to be here: if you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.
5 Adhuc eo loquente, ecce nubes lucida obumbravit eos.

5 While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them.
||||cloud||||||||||||him|
And behold a voice from the cloud, saying: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: hear him.
6 Et audientes discipuli ceciderunt in faciem suam, et timuerunt valde.
|||fell||||||
6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces, and were greatly afraid.
7 Et accessit Jesus, et tetigit eos : dixitque eis : Surgite, et nolite timere.
||||||and said||get up|||
7 And Jesus came and touched them and said to them: Arise and do not be afraid.
8 Levantes autem oculos suos, neminem viderunt, nisi solum Jesum.

8 And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus alone.
9 Et descendentibus illis de monte, præcepit eis Jesus, dicens : Nemini dixeritis visionem, donec Filius hominis a mortuis resurgat.
|as they were descending|||||||||you tell|vision||||||rises
9 And when they had come down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying: Tell no one of the vision until the Son of Man rises from the dead.
10 Et interrogaverunt eum discipuli, dicentes : Quid ergo scribæ dicunt, quod Eliam oporteat primum venire ?
|they asked||||||||||it is necessary||
10 And the disciples questioned him, saying: What then do the scribes say that Elias must come first?
11 At ille respondens, ait eis : Elias quidem venturus est, et restituet omnia.
||||||||||will restore|
11 But he, answering, said to them: Elias is indeed going to come and restore everything.
|||||||||they recognized|||they did||||they wanted
12 But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but they did to him whatever they wanted.
||||to suffer|||them
So also the Son of man will suffer from them.
13 Tunc intellexerunt discipuli, quia de Joanne Baptista dixisset eis.
|||||||had said|
13 Then the disciples understood that he had told them about John the Baptist.

14 And when he had come to the crowd, a man came to him, kneeling before him, saying: Lord, have mercy on my son, because he is lunatic and suffers badly: for he often falls into the fire, and often into the water.
|I offered||||||they were able||
15 And I gave him to your disciples, and they could not take care of him.

16 And Jesus answering said: O unbelieving and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you?
usquequo patiar vos ?

How long shall I suffer you?
Afferte huc illum ad me.
Bring him here to me.
|rebuked||||departed|||||he was cured|||||
17 And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon came out of him, and the boy was cured from that hour.
|came up||||in secret||||||we were able||
18 Then the disciples came to Jesus secretly, and said: Why could we not cast him out?
19 Dixit illis Jesus : Propter incredulitatem vestram.
19 Jesus said to them: Because of your unbelief.
Amen quippe dico vobis, si habueritis fidem sicut granum sinapis, dicetis monti huic : Transi hinc illuc, et transibit, et nihil impossibile erit vobis.
|||||you have had|||grain||you will say|to the mountain||pass |from here|there||it will pass|||impossible||
Indeed, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain: Pass from here to there, and it will pass, and nothing will be impossible for you.

20 But this kind is not cast out except by prayer and fasting.

21 And when they were conversing with them in Galilee, Jesus said to them: The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of men: 22 and they will kill him, and on the third day he will rise again.
Et contristati sunt vehementer.
|they were saddened||
And they were greatly grieved.

23 And when they had come to Capernaum, those who were receiving the dirachmas came to Peter and said to him: Does not your teacher pay the dirachmas?
24 Ait : Etiam.

24 He said: Yes.

And when he had entered the house, Jesus prevented him, saying: What do you think Simon?

25 Et ille dixit : Ab alienis.

25 And he said: From strangers.
Dixit illi Jesus : Ergo liberi sunt filii.

Jesus said to him: Therefore the sons are free.

26 But that we may not cause them to stumble, go to the sea and cast a hook: and take that fish which first came up: and with its open mouth you will find a balance: taking it, give it to them for me and you.
