Mat. 16
Matt. 16
Mat. 16
Matt. 16
||||||Sadducees|testing||they asked||||||he would show|
2 At ille respondens, ait illis : Facto vespere dicitis : Serenum erit, rubicundum est enim cælum.
|||||at|evening||||reddish|||
2 But he responding, said to them: In the evening you say: It will be fair, for the sky is red.
|||weather|||sad|
3 And in the morning: Today there will be a storm, for the sky is gloomy.
face|||judge||signs||of the times|||know
4 Therefore you know how to judge the face of the sky: but the signs of the times you cannot know?
|||||seeks|||||||||
An evil and adulterous generation seeks a sign: and no sign shall be given to it, except the sign of the prophet Jonah.
Et relictis illis, abiit.
And leaving them, he went away.
||had come|||||they forgot|||
And when his disciples had come to the other side of the sea, they had forgotten to take bread.
|||"Look"||beware|||||
6 He said to them: Take heed, and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
7 At illi cogitabant intra se dicentes : Quia panes non accepimus.
||were considering|||||||we received
7 But they reasoned among themselves, saying: It is because we have taken no bread.
8 Sciens autem Jesus, dixit : Quid cogitatis intra vos modicæ fidei, quia panes non habetis ?
8 But Jesus, knowing, said: Why do you reason among yourselves, O you of little faith, because you have no bread?
9 Nondum intelligitis, neque recordamini quinque panum in quinque millia hominum, et quot cophinos sumpsistis ?
|||you remember||loaves||||||||you took
9 Do you not yet understand, nor remember the five loaves for the five thousand men, and how many baskets you took up?
||loaves||||||||
10 nor the seven loaves for the four thousand men, and how many baskets you took up?
|||||||I said|||||||
11 Why do you not understand that I did not speak to you about bread? Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees?
12 Tunc intellexerunt quia non dixerit cavendum a fermento panum, sed a doctrina pharisæorum et sadducæorum.
||||he said|to be avoided|||||||||
12 Then they understood that he did not say to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
||||||of Philip||he was asking|||||||||
13 And Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, and he asked his disciples, saying: Who do people say that the Son of Man is?
|||||Baptist|||Elijah|||||||
14 And they said: Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.
15 Dicit illis Jesus : Vos autem, quem me esse dicitis ?
15 Jesus said to them: But who do you say that I am?
16 Respondens Simon Petrus dixit : Tu es Christus, Filius Dei vivi.
||||||Christ|||living
16 Simon Peter replied: You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.
||||||||son of|Jonah||flesh||blood||revealed||||||||
17 And Jesus answering said to him: Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah: for flesh and blood has not revealed it to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
||||||||||||I will build|Church|||gates|of hell||will prevail||
18 And I say to you, that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 Et tibi dabo claves regni cælorum.
|||keys||
19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven.
Et quodcumque ligaveris super terram, erit ligatum et in cælis : et quodcumque solveris super terram, erit solutum et in cælis.

20 Tunc præcepit discipulis suis ut nemini dicerent quia ipse esset Jesus Christus.
|he commanded|||that|||||||
20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was Jesus Christ.
21 Exinde cœpit Jesus ostendere discipulis suis, quia oporteret eum ire Jerosolymam, et multa pati a senioribus, et scribis, et principibus sacerdotum, et occidi, et tertia die resurgere.

21 Subsequently, Jesus began to show his disciples that it was necessary for him to go to Jerusalem, and to suffer many things from the elders, and the scribes, and the chief priests, and to be killed, and on the third day to rise again.
|taking|||began||||far be it|||||||
22 And taking him aside, Peter began to rebuke him, saying: Far be it from you, Lord: this shall not happen to you.

23 And turning, he said to Peter: Get behind me, Satan; you are a stumbling block to me: for you are not mindful of the things of God, but of the things of men.
24 Tunc Jesus dixit discipulis suis : Si quis vult post me venire, abneget semetipsum, et tollat crucem suam, et sequatur me.
|||||||||||let him deny|himself||take up|cross|||follows|
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples: If anyone wishes to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
25 For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it: but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

26 For what does it profit a man, if he gains the whole world, but suffers the loss of his soul?

27 For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of his Father with his angels: and then he will repay each according to his works.
