今天 我 想 跟 大家 聊聊 養 寵物 這件 事。 I want to talk to you about owning pets

我 相信 很多 聽眾 都 有養 寵物 ，我家 也 有養。 I believe many listeners have pets, and my family has too. ペットを飼っているリスナーも多いと思いますが、私もペットを飼っています。

我 家養 的 是 兩隻 狗 跟 四隻 鳥。 My family has two dogs and four birds.

我 印象 中 更 小 的 時候 我家 也 養 過魚 、烏龜 、還有 很多 台灣 人 小時候 都 養過 的 蠶寶寶(silkworm)。 I remember when I was little, my family had fish, turtles, and silkworms that many Taiwanese had as pet when they're little. 私が子供の頃、私の家族も魚、亀、蚕を飼っていて、多くの台湾人が幼い頃に飼っていたことを思い出します。

不 知道 為 什麼 台灣 人國 小 的 時候 都 會 養蠶 寶寶， I don't know why Taiwanese people all had silkworms as pets when they're in primary school. 台湾人がなぜ幼い頃から蚕を飼っていたのかは分かりません。

我 忘記 我 的 蠶寶寶 是 哪裡 來 的， I forgot where my silkworms came from.

印象 中 好像 是 小學 的 自然課 吧？ It seems to be from science class in primary school 小学校の自然科学の授業らしいですね。

可能 是 學校 給的 、也 可能 是 自己 去 買 的。 Maybe the school gave them to me or I just bought them somewhere.

蠶寶寶 就是 那種 長大 會 變成 蛾 (moth)的 昆蟲， Silkworms are the kind of insects that grow up to become moths.

牠 們 變成 蛾 之前 會 吐絲 把 自己 的 身體 包住 變成 一個 繭(cocoon)， Before they become moths, they spin silk and wrap their bodies to become a cocoon. 蛾になる前に糸を紡ぎ、体を包んで繭を作ります。

那 我們 人類 也 會 把 他們 的 繭 拿來 做成 一種 叫做 絲綢 (silk)的 布料(fabrics)。 Then we humans also use their cocoons to make a kind of fabrics called silk.

總之 ，這些 我家 小時候 養過 的 寵物 好像 最後 也 都 因為 不同 的 原因 被養 死 了， In short, these pets that my family had when I was a child seem to have died for different reasons in the end, つまり、私が子供の頃に家族で飼っていたこれらのペットは、すべてさまざまな理由で殺されて育てられたようです。

現在 想 起來 其實 滿 殘忍 的。 which is actually cruel in retrospect

那 我家 真正 開始 養 寵物 應該 可以 從 我們 養 的 第 一隻 狗 開始 算 起。 So the actual first pet my family owns should be our first dog. そして、私の家族の本当のペット飼育の始まりは、最初に飼った犬から数えることができます。

在 養狗 之前 我 其實 超怕 狗 這種 動物 的。 Before getting a dog, I was actually very scared of dogs.

一方面 ，我 小時候 根本 沒什麼 接觸 過狗， On the one hand, I didn't have any contact with dogs at all when I was a child.

我們 家 沒有 養狗 ，身邊 的 親戚 還有 朋友 也 都 沒有 養， We didn't have dogs, and neither did my relatives or friends,

所以 我 對 狗 很 陌生。 so I was very unfamiliar with dogs. なので犬初心者です。

另一方面 ，我 舊家 附近 超級 多 流浪狗 (stray dog)的。 On the other hand, there were a lot of stray dogs near my old house.

印象 中 我 舊家 旁邊 有 一塊 空地 ，長 了 很多 雜草， I remember that there was an open space next to my old home, and a lot of weeds grew there,

然後 那些 流浪狗 就 把 這個 空地 當成 自己 的 家。 and then the stray dogs took this open space as their home.

每次 要 回家 我 都 一定 要 經過 這些 流浪狗， Every time I wanted to go home, I had to pass these stray dogs,

我 真的 每次 放學 回家 都 要 鼓起 很大 的 勇氣(pluck up my courage)、 I really had to pluck up my courage every time I went home from school

都 要 先站 在 一邊 跟 自己 說： I had to stand aside and say to myself:

「這些 狗 不 可怕 ，這些 狗 不 可怕 ，你 可以 做到 的！」 "these dogs aren't scary, these dogs aren't scary! you can do it!"

就是 幫 自己 加油打氣 一下 ，然後 我 才 敢 回家。 Just to cheer myself up before I dare to go home. 自分を元気づけるために、思い切って家に帰ります。

而且 我還 真的 有 一次 被 那群 流浪狗 的 其中 一隻 追 過， And I was actually chased by one of those stray dogs once.

我 拼著命 逃跑， I tried my best to escape 頑張って逃げようとしたのですが、

還邊 跑邊 大喊 說 ：「救命 ！救命！」 and shouted, "Help! Help!" 彼は走って「助けて！助けて！」と叫びました。

那次 我 印象 很 深刻 的 是 我 有 經過 一個 大人， I remember vividly that I ran past this man その時とても印象に残ったのは、大人を通り越して、

結果 他 卻 冷眼旁觀 (do nothing to help)、沒有 來 幫 我。 but he did nothing to help and just stood there and watched.

我 覺得 我 都 快 死掉 了 ，然後 一直 大 喊救命 救命， I felt like I was dying and kept yelling for help

結果 他 都 無動於衷(indifferent)。 and he was indifferent.

所以 我 小時候 對 狗 很 有 陰影(have trauma)， So when I was young, I had trauma with dogs,

就是 對 狗 有 不好 的 經驗。 that is, I had a bad experience with dogs.

那 我 真的 是 養 第 一隻 狗 之後 才 開始 不怕 狗 的。 It was when we got our first dog that I overcame my fear for dogs.

這 是不是 一種 人 的 天性 (human nature)啊？ Is this human nature? これは人間の本能なのでしょうか？

我們 對 自己 不 熟悉 的 東西 都 會 抱 著 一種 恐懼感(fear)， We all have a fear of things we are not familiar with

我 覺得 我 小時候 對 狗 也 是 這種 感覺。 I think I felt the same way about dogs when I was a kid.

但是 養狗 之後 每天 都 要 跟 狗 相處， But after owning a dog, I had to live with the dog every day,

久而久之 (as time went by)就 覺得 狗 就是 狗 啊 ，沒什麼 好怕 的。 and as the time went by, I felt that a dog is a dog, and there's nothing to be afraid of.

那 除了 讓 我 不怕 狗 之外 ，養 寵物 對 我 還有 什麼 其他 的 好處 呢？ So besides making me not scared of dogs, what are the other benefits of having pets for me?

我們 常常 說養 寵物 其中 一個 最 主要 的 目的 是 陪伴(accompany)。 We often say that one of the main purposes of keeping a pet is companionship. ペットを飼う最も重要な目的の 1 つは、仲間との交流であるとよく言われます。

陪伴 就是 在 旁邊 陪著 我們 的 意思。 To accompany means to be by our side. コンパニオンとは、私たちと一緒にいることを意味します。

很多 人 可能 是 一個 人 生活 ，這樣 難免 會 覺得 孤單， Many people may live alone, so they will inevitably feel lonely, and 一人暮らしをしている人も多いので、どうしても孤独を感じてしまいます。

他們 可能 就 會 需要 一些 陪伴 ，這時候 養 寵物 是 一種 很 好 的 選擇。 they may need some companionship. Here, owning pets is a good choice.

我 自己 是 沒有 這種 經驗 啦！ I have no such experience myself!

但是 我 覺得 養 寵物 真的 可以 增加 很多 生活 中 的 樂趣(entertainment)。 But I think having pets can really add a lot of entertainment to my daily life.

像 我 每天 一 起床 我 的 狗狗 就 會 跑 來 我 的 床邊 、搖著 尾巴 、對 著 我 歡呼(shout for joy)， Like when I wake up every day, my dog will come to my bed, wag his tail, shout for joy,

或是 我 可能 出門 一段時間 之後 再 回家， or say, I go out for a while and then come home,

這時候 狗狗 就 會 很 興奮 地來 門口 迎接 我 ，還會 跳 起來 站 到 我 腿 上。 My dog always gets excited to see me and come welcome me at the door and jump up on my laps.

這些 時候 就 會 覺得 養 寵物 真 好， At moments like these, I'll think it's good to have pets

覺得 就算 全世界 都 不愛我 了 ，還有 我 的 狗狗 是 愛我 的。 I feel even if the whole world doesn't love me, my dogs still do.

而且 不 知道 為 什麼 我家 有 一隻 狗 很 聰明， I don't know why but one of the dogs in my family is very smart, そして、なぜ私の犬がそんなに賢いのかわかりません。

就是 他 很 親人 (friendly)，而且 很 懂得 怎麼 討人喜歡。 he is very friendly and knows how to please people. つまり、彼はとてもフレンドリーで、人々を喜ばせる方法を知っています。

像 我 剛剛 講的 他 就 會 很 熱情 的 歡迎 你 啊， Like I just said, he will always give you a warm welcome

而且 他 動不動 (often)就 會 跑過來 、身體 靠 著 你 要 你 摸 他， and he will often come to you, lean his body on you and ask you to pet him,

而且 他 想要 吃 東西 的 時候 還會 把頭 靠 在 你 的 大腿 上 然後 用 他 水汪汪 的 大 眼睛 (sparkling eyes)看著 你。 and when he wants to eat, he will put his head on your lap, and then look at you with his sparkling eyes.

總之 ，他 就是 會 表現 得 很 可愛 ，讓 你 很 難 不 喜歡 他。 Anyway, he just acts so cute that it's hard not to like him.

雖然 我 很 喜歡 我們 家 的 狗狗 ，覺得 他們 很 可愛， Although I like our dogs very much, I think they are cute,

而且 也 覺得 他們 帶給 我 的 生活 很多 樂趣， and I think they bring a lot of fun to my life,

但是 我 覺得 如果 要 我 選擇 的話 我 不會 養 寵物 耶。 but I don't think I would have pets if I had to choose.

最 主要 的 原因 是 我 覺得 養 寵物 責任 (responsibility)很 重 ，就是 養 寵物 要負 很多 責任。 The main reason is that I think the responsibility of keeping pets is very heavy, that is, keeping pets has a lot of responsibilities.

像是 養狗 的話 ，我 覺得 就 很 像 養 一個 小孩， Raising a dog, I think it's a lot like raising a child,

好 啦 ，我 沒養 過 小孩 所以 我 不 知道。 well, I've never raised a child so I don't know.

但是 連養 狗 我 都 覺得 責任 很 重， But even raising a dog feels a lot of responsibility しかし、犬を育てることさえ私にとって重い責任のように感じます。

你 一養 狗 就要 養 好幾年 、甚至 超過 十年， Once you get a dog, you will have to raise it for several years, or even more than ten years, 犬は一度飼うと数年、場合によっては10年以上飼わなければなりません。

而且 大大小小 的 照顧 我 都 覺得 滿 麻煩 的。 and I find it troublesome to take care of it.

像是 每天 要 幫 他們 準備 食物 啊， Like preparing food for them every day

每天 要 遛狗 、帶 他們 去 散步 啊， walking the dog,

每天 幫 他們 撿 大便 、擦屁股 啊， picking up their poos and wiping their bum every day, 私は毎日うんちを拾ったり、お尻を拭いたりするのを手伝います。

這些 都 還是 小事。 these are all just small things.

還有 一些 大事 ，像是 帶 他們 去 結紮 (neuter)、他們 生病 的 時候 帶 他們 看 醫生， There are also some big things, like neutering, taking them to the doctor when they are sick, 去勢手術に連れて行ったり、病気のときに医者に連れて行ったり、

這些 會 影響 到 狗狗 健康 的 事情 也 要 處理。 these things that will affect the dog's health also need to be dealt with. 犬の健康に影響を与えるこれらのことにも対処する必要があります。

花錢 就算 了 ，你 也 要 花 時間 去 照顧 他們。 It's not just about spending money, but also about spending time to take care of them. お金をかけても、世話には時間も費やさなければなりません。

中文 有 一句 話 叫做 「甜蜜 的 負擔」， There is a saying in Mandarin called "sweet burden", 中国語に「甘負担」ということわざがあります。

像是 養 寵物 就 很 適合 用 這句 話。 which is suitable for pets.

像 我 剛剛 講的， As I just said,

我們 養 寵物 的 時候 雖然 要花 很多 錢 跟 很多 心力 去 照顧 他們， We have to spend a lot of money and effort to take care of them when we have pets,

他們 會 變成 我們 的 一種 負擔(burden)。 they will become a burden to us.

但是 他們 同時 也 陪伴 著 我們 、帶給 我們 很多 樂趣， But they also accompany us and bring us a lot of joy, and

我們 也 會 對 他們 產生 感情 、會 去 愛 他們， we also develop feelings for them and love them, 私たちも彼らに対して感情を抱き、彼らを愛します。

所以 我們 也 會 覺得 有 我們 的 寵物 在 很 「甜蜜 (sweet;happy)」很 幸福， so we also feel very sweet and happy to have our pets.

所以 我們 才 會 說 這是 一種 甜蜜 的 負擔。 That's why we call them a sweet burden

我們 也 會 說養 小孩 是 一種 甜蜜 的 負擔。 We would also say raising children is a sweet burden.

所以 如果 讓 我 選擇 的話 ，我 覺得 我 不會 養 寵物。 So if I had to choose, I don't think I would have pets.

因為 我 覺得 我 一個 人 沒 辦法 負擔得起 這麼 多 責任 ，我 也 不想 負擔。 Because I don't think I can handle so many responsibilities by myself, and I don't want to.

而且 我 也 常常 在 不同 國家 移動 ，養 寵物 的話 會 變得 很 不 方便。 Also, I often move from country to country, which makes it very inconvenient to keep pets.

那 有些 人 可能 養 寵物 之前 沒有 好好 地 考慮， Some people may not have thought about it carefully before raising pets,

也 沒有 想到 養 寵物 要 負起 這麼 多 責任。 nor have they thought that raising pets will have so many responsibilities. ペットを飼うことにこれほど多くの責任が伴うとは思いませんでした。

這些 人 就 很 有 可能 會 棄養 (abandon)寵物。 These people are likely to abandon pets.

棄養 的 意思 就是 你 不再 養 你 的 寵物 ，你 把 他 丟掉， Abandonment means that you no longer keep your pet, you throw him away,

你 遺棄 他。 you abandon him.

棄養 寵物 真的 是 一件 很 不 負責 (irresponsible)的 行為， Abandoning pets is really an irresponsible act,

而且 在 很多 國家 應該 都 是 違法 的， and it should be illegal in many countries

那 在 台灣 也 是， in Taiwan too

如果 你 今天 隨便 把 你 的 寵物 丟掉 ，你 就是 違法 ，你 會 被 罰錢。 if you throw away your pets, you are breaking the law and you will be getting a fine.

棄養 寵物 也 會 造成 流浪 (stray)動物 的 問題， Abandoned pets can also cause problems like stray animals,

我們 最 常見 的 就是 流浪狗 跟 流浪 貓。 the most common of which are stray dogs and cats.

流浪 動物 通常 是 一些 被 棄養 或 走失 (lost)的 寵物， Stray animals are usually abandoned or lost pets,

或是 被 棄養 的 寵物 又生 下來 的 動物， or animals born from abandoned pets, あるいは、捨てられたペットから生まれ変わった動物、

然後 他們 不得不 在 街頭 (street)上 生活。 and they have to live on the streets.

那台灣 為 了 解決 流浪 動物 的 問題， In order to solve the problem of stray animals in Taiwan,

我們 有 收留 這些 流浪 動物 的 地方， we have places for sheltering these stray animals, which

一般 會 叫 這些 地方 「動物 收容所(animal shelter)」， are usually called "animal shelters".

你 有 可能 也 會 聽到 「流浪 動物 之 家 」這種 名稱。 You may also hear the name "homes for stray animals".

流浪 動物 真的 是 一個 很 難解 決 的 問題， Stray animals are really a difficult problem to solve,

而且 每次 看到 流浪 動物 的 照片 就 會 覺得 好 可憐 ，也 會 覺得 很 難過。 and every time I see pictures of stray animals, I feel so pitiful and sad.

我 覺得 為 了 解決 這個 問題 我們 要 做到 的 最 基本 的 事情 就是 「負責」。 I think the most basic thing we have to do in order to solve this problem is to be "responsible".

我們 養 寵物 之前 一定 要 想 清楚 我們 到底 有沒有 能力 照顧 這個 動物， Before we raise a pet, we must think about whether we have the ability to take care of this animal.

不能 只是 覺得 這個 動物 很 可愛 就 決定 要養 他。 We can't just think this animal is cute and decide to keep him.

另外 一個 我們 很 常講 的 口號 (slogan)是 「領養 代替 購買」。 Another slogan we often talk about is "adopting instead of purchasing". 私たちがよく使うもう 1 つのスローガンは、「購入ではなく採用」です。

領養 就是 英文 的adoption， 領養 is adoption in English.

像是 去 動物 收容所 把 流浪 動物 帶回家 自己 養 ，這樣 就是 領養。 like going to an animal shelter to bring stray animals home and raise them by yourself. This is adoption.

所以 領養 代替 購買 的 意思 就是 為 了 解決 流浪 動物 的 問題， Adopting instead of purchasing means in order to solve the problem of stray animals,

我們 不要 再 去 寵物店 購買 寵物 了 ，我們 應該 讓 這些 已經 沒有 家 的 動物 有 一個家。 We should stop going to pet stores to buy pets. We should let these animals that have no home have a home. 私たちはもうペットショップにペットを買うのではなく、飼い主を失った動物たちに家を与えるべきです。

雖然 我 剛剛 說 我 不會 養 寵物， Although I just said that I don't want pets,

但是 我話 沒 說 這麼 死 啦(I'm not 100% sure about what I said)， but I don't mean I will never not want a pet. しかし、私は自分が言ったことについて 100% 確信しているわけではありません (私が言ったことについて 100% 確信しているわけではありません)、

我 覺得 我 未來 還是 很 有 可能 會養 狗， I think it's very likely that I will have my own dog in the future,

只是 現在 的 我還 沒有 那個 能力 去養。 but now I don't have the ability to raise one yet

那 我 之後 養狗 的話 我 覺得 我 不會 去 寵物店 買， So if I raise a dog in the future, I don't think I will go to the pet store to buy it,

我會 去 收容所 領養， I will go to the shelter to adopt it,

因為 「領養 代替 購買 」嘛！ because "adopting instead of purchasing".

而且 其實 我們 家養 的 第二隻 狗 就是 領養 的。 And in fact, the second dog in my family was adopted.

我 爸媽 有 一次 去逛 花市 (flower market)就 看到 有 收容所 的 人 在 請 人 領養 狗狗， My parents once went to a flower market and saw people from animal shelters asking people to adopt dogs, 私の両親はかつて花市場に行き、犬の引き取りを人々に呼びかけている保護施設を目にしました。

然後 我爸 就 看 上 (had his eyes set on)一隻 頭是 黑色 、身體 是 白色 的 狗狗， and then my dad had his eyes set on a dog with black head and white body, その時、父は頭が黒くて体が白い犬に目を付けました。

他 的 名字 那個 時候 叫做 「黑頭」。 his name was literally "blackhead" at that time.

下 一秒 ，我們 家 就 多 了 一隻 狗 了。 And next, we have an extra dog in our house. 次の瞬間、私たちの家族に犬が増えました。

那 這 隻 領養 的 狗狗 我們 已經 養 七年 了， We have adopted this dog for seven years.

我 跟 他 有 很多 很棒 的 回憶 ，我們 家 的 人 都 很 愛他。 I have a lot of great memories with him. Our family loves him very much.

而且 也 因為 跟 他 相處 的 經驗， And because of my experience with him,

我 覺得 我 未來 如果 要養 自己 的 寵物 的話 ，我會 繼續 選擇 用 領養 的 方式。 I think if I want to raise my own pet in the future, I will continue to choose to adopt it.
