今天 我 想來 跟 你 分享 一下 我 最近 發生 的 一件 衰事。 Today I want to share with you a bad thing that happened to me recently.

衰事 就是 不好 的 事 、運氣 不好 的 事。 衰事 means bad things, bad luck.

衰 這個 字 我查 了 一下 ，它 應該 是 台語 來 的 ，但是 在 台灣 是 中文 口語 也 會 用 的 字。 I checked the word "衰sui1", it should come from Taiwanese, but in Taiwan it is a word that can be used in spoken Mandarin.

衰 就是 英文 unlucky的 意思 ，就是 很 倒楣 、運氣 很 不好 的 意思。 "衰sui1" means unlucky in English, which means unlucky and bad luck.

那要 注意 一下 ，如果 你 要 打出 這個 字 的話， Note that if you want to type this word,

你 可能 要 打 ㄕㄨㄞ(shuāi)你 才 打 得 出來。 you may have to type ㄕㄨㄞ(shuāi) otherwise it won't come up.

進入 今天 的 主題 之前 我 想 跟 你 推薦 我 另外 一個 podcast《來句 中文 Lychee Mandarin》。 Before getting into today's topic, I would like to recommend another podcast of mine, "Lychee Mandarin".

每個 禮拜 我會 從 台灣 的 新聞 裡面 挑出 一個 句子 來 跟 你們 解釋 那個 句子 的 意思。 Every week I will pick a sentence from news in Taiwan and explain the meaning of that sentence.

所以 我 到底 發生 了 什麼 衰事 呢？ So what exactly happened to me?

要 先 從 我 最近 搬 到 宜蘭 開始 講起。 Let's start with me moving to Yilan recently.

對 ，我 最近 搬 到 宜蘭 了。 Yes, I recently moved to Yilan.

我 不 知道 你 有沒有 聽過 宜蘭 這個 地方。 I don't know if you have heard about this place, Yilan.

宜蘭 在 台灣 的 東北部 ，其實 它 就 在 台北 的 旁邊， Yilan is located in the northeastern part of Taiwan. In fact, it is next to Taipei.

如果 不 塞車 (traffic jam)的話 一個 小時 以內 就 可以 從 台北 來到 宜蘭。 If there is no traffic jam, you can reach Yilan from Taipei within an hour.

宜蘭 有山有水 ，也 有 很多 田， There are mountains, rivers and sea, and many fields in Yilan.

是 一個 很漂亮 而且 很 適合 觀光 (sightsee)的 地方。 It's beautiful and a suitable place for sightseeing

雖然 我們 在 宜蘭 的 生活 到 目前 為止 (so far)都 很棒， Although our life in Yilan has been great so far,

但是 宜蘭 跟 台北 最 不 一樣 的 地方 是 這裡 的 交通 方式。 the most different thing about Yilan from Taipei is the means of transportation.

宜蘭 不像 台北 一樣 是 一個 大都市 ，這裡 沒有 捷運 也 沒有 YouBike那種 共享 單車(bike sharing system)， Yilan is not a big city like Taipei. There is no MRT or a bike sharing system like YouBike,

所以 在 這裡 最 主要 的 方式 就是 開車 或是 騎 機車(scooter; motorbike)。 so the main means of transportation here is to drive or ride a motorcycle.

當然 我 現在 一張 駕照 (driver's licesne)也 沒有。 Of course I don't have a driver's license right now.

我 去 澳洲 前有 嘗試 過考 機車 駕照 ，但是 很 衰地 沒 考過， Before I went to Australia, I tried to take the test for a motorcycle driver's license, but unfortunately I failed,

然後 我 到 現在 都還沒 去 重考。 and I haven't retaken the test yet.

總之 ，我 現在 都 是給 別人 載 啦！ In short, I always need a driver if I want to go somewhere.

講到 機車 嘛 ，我 終於 要來 進入 主題 了。 Speaking of motorbikes, let's get into today's subject.

為 了 適應 宜蘭 這邊 的 生活 、為 了 在 這邊 生活 比較 方便， To adapt to the life here in Yilan and to make life more convenient here,

我們 買 了 一台 新 的 機車 ，全新 的 喔 ，不是 二手 的。 we bought a new motorbike, brand new, not second-hand.

我們 就 在 上 禮拜 拿到 這台 全新 的 機車。 We got this brand new motorbike just last week

這款 (model)機車 真的 是 外觀 很漂亮 ，有點 復古(vintage)， This model is really beautiful, a little vintage,

我們 在 網路上 看到 照片 馬上 就 決定 買 了， we saw the photos on the Internet and then immediately decided to buy it,

然後 拿到 機車 的 時候 我們 全家 都 很 開心 很high(excited)。 and when we got the motorbike, our whole family was very happy and excited.

結果 沒想到 沒多久 衰事 就 降臨 (arrive)在 我們 身上。 But it didn't take long for bad things to happen to us.

因為 拿到 機車 之後 的 前 幾天 我們 都 只是 騎去 便利商店 買 東西 然後 就 回家， Because on the first few days after we got the motorcycle, we just went to the convenience store to buy things and then went home,

不然 就是 在家 裡 附近 亂騎 (riding aimlessly)，就是 沒有 目的地 騎來騎去， otherwise we would ride aimlessly near our house,

所以 我們 週末 就 決定 騎去 遠 一點 的 海邊。 so we decided to ride farther to the beach on the weekend.

那天 我們 牽 (walk)摩托車 準備 要 離開 家裡 的 時候 我們 發現 摩托車 底下 有 一灘 (a puddle of)東西， When we were walking the motorcycle to leave the house that day, we found a puddle of something under the motorcycle,

但是 因為 是 透明 (see-through)的 ，我們 都 沒多想， but because it was see-through, we didn't think much about it,

我 自己 以為 是 早上 的 露水 (dew)啦。 I thought it was morning dew.

總之 ，一路上 騎騎 騎 ，都 沒有 發生 什麼 奇怪 的 事， Anyway, nothing strange happened on the way,

我還 很 開心 地 在 後座 (backseat)拍 影片， I was taking videos in the backseat,

想 說 可以 做成 一個 迷你 (small) vlog po在 我 的 IG上。 thinking I can make a small vlog to post on my Instagram.

到 海邊 之後 也 沒有 發生 什麼 事， And then nothing happened either after we got to the beach,

我們 就 在 那邊 踏踏 浪(dip our feet in the water) we just dipped our feet in the water,

曬 曬太陽， and get some sun

然後 還 順便 撿 撿 海灘 上 的 垃圾。 and we also pick up the trash on the beach

我們 滿 享受 我們 在 海灘 上 的 時光 (time)的。 We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the beach.

就 在 我們 發動 (turn on)機車 、正要 離開 海灘 的 時候， Just as we turned on the motorbike and were about to leave the beach,

奇怪 的 事情 發生 了。 something strange happened.

我們 的 機車 發動 之後 沒多久 就 會 自動 熄火(turn off)。 Our motorbike just turned off by itself not long after it's started.

我們 試 了 好 幾次 都 是 這樣 ，發動 引擎 之後 轟隆轟隆 幾聲 就 熄火， We tried this several times. After starting the engine, it rumbled a few times, then shut down.

結果 試到 最後 引擎 就 再也 發動 不了 了(can no longer)， After trying a few time, the engine could no longer start.

我們 叫 這種 情況 「拋錨(break down)」。 We call this situation "拋錨 a breakdown".

拋錨 就是 機車 或是 汽車 壞掉 、再也 發動 不了 的 意思。 拋錨 means that a motorbike or car has broken down and can no longer be started.

我們 遇到 機車 拋錨 的 當下 真的 很 崩潰(have a [mental] breakdown, usually used in an exagerated way)， We then had a breakdown / 崩潰

崩潰 就是 很 緊張 又 不 知道 該 怎麼辦 的 意思。 崩潰 means being nervous and not knowing what to do.

不過 還好 沙灘 的 附近 就 有 一個 遊客 中心， Fortunately, there is a visitor center near the beach,

我們 就 趕快 把 機車 推推 推 、推過去 那邊。 we quickly pushed the motorbike over there.

推 機車 的 過程 我們 發現 機車 竟然 在 滴油， When we're pushing it, we found that there was oil dripping.

仔細 一看 才 發現 有油會 從 機車 上 的 一個 洞 漏出來(leak)， We took a closer look, and found some oil would leak from a hole on the motorbike.

我們 就 想 這 一定 就是 機車 拋錨 的 原因。 We thought this must be the reason why it's broke down.

到 了 遊客 中心 之後 ，我們 就 開始 上網 查 機車 拋錨 怎麼辦。 After arriving at the visitor center, we started to check online what to do when your motorbike breaks down.

因為 這是 我們 第一次 買 機車 ，我們 完全 不 知道 要 怎麼辦， Since this is our first time buying a motorcycle and we had absolutely no idea what to do

我 就 想 說 最快 的 方式 就是 查看 看 附近 有沒有 機車行(motorbike shop)。 I thought the quickest way was to check to see if there was a motorbike shop nearby.

查 了 一下 ，結果 附近 真的 有 我們 買 的 這個 牌子 (brand)的 機車行， And it turned out there was a motorcycle dealer of the same brand we bought nearby,

我們 就 趕快 聯絡 他們， so we contacted them as soon as possible,

然後 他們 也 說 可以 來看 我們 機車 的 狀況 ，只是 要 我們 等 一下。 and they said that they could check the condition of our motorcycle, but we had to wait.

等 了 半個 小時 ，機車行 的 師傅 終於 來 了。 After half an hour, the motorbike dealer finally came.

他 就 幫 我們 稍微 檢查 了 一下 ，我 就 把 漏油 的 事 跟 他講， He did a little inspection, and I told him about the oil leak.

他 看 了 一下 就 說 ：「欸 ，你們 這裡 螺絲 (screw)整個 不見 了！」 He looked at it and said, "Hey, the screw here is gone!"

我們 聽到 覺得 很 震驚(shocked)， We were shocked to hear that,

我們 就 想 ：「怎麼 會 機車 才剛 買不到 一個 禮拜 螺絲 就 掉 了。」 We thought, "How come the screw fell off? We only got it less than a week"

然後 他 又 跟 我們 說 ：「該 不會 (could it be that)是 有人 故意 (deliberately)惡作劇 (do a prank)，把 你們 的 螺絲 拆掉(remove)？ Then he said to us, "Could it be that someone did a prank deliberately and removed your screw?

因為 一般來說 這個 螺絲 是 不會 掉 的。」 Because generally speaking, this screw will not come off easily."

他 講完 這句 話 我 就 想到 我們 早上 離開 家裡 的 時候 有 看到 一灘 透明 的 東西， After he said this, I remembered when we left the house that morning, we saw a puddle of something see-through,

那個 應該 就是 機車 漏出來 的 油 吧？ which should be the oil leaking from the motorbike.

然後 我 又 覺得 很 恐怖， And then I felt scared

因為 我 想 說 ：「該 不會 有人 那麼 討厭 我們 討厭 到 半 夜來 對 我們 的 機車 惡作劇 吧？」 because I was like, "Could there really be someone who hates us so much that they did a prank to our bike in the middle of the night?"

總之 ，我們 就 把 我們 就 先 把 我們 的 機車 交給 車行 的 人 ，然後 叫 我 媽來 載 我們 回家。 Anyway, we gave our bike to the dealer, and then asked my mum to take us home.

因為 機車行 師傅 的 那句 「該 不會 是 有人 惡作劇 」害 我們 覺得 毛毛 的(scared)， Because the motorbike dealer's said it could be someone's prank, it made us feel scared,

就是 覺得 有點 恐怖 ，所以 我們 還 特別 去 看 我們 家 的 監視器(surveillance camera)。 so we also went to check the surveillance camera in our house.

結果 我們 最後 只 在 監視器 上 看到 好幾隻 蟲 飛來飛去， Then we only saw a few bugs flying around

還 看到 我媽 半夜 起來 殺 蟑螂(cockroach)， and we saw my mom get up in the middle of the night to kill a cockroach,

我們 沒 看到 有人 來 碰 我們 的 機車。 but we didn't see anyone touching our bike

所以 我們 最後 的 結論 就是 我們 的 機車 應該 本來 就 有 瑕疵 (flaw)、應該 本來 就 有 問題， So we made a conclusion that there must have been some problems with our bike before we even got it.

所以 才 剛買 多久 就 壞掉。 so it broke down soon after we got it.

過了 幾天 之後 我們 的 機車 終於 被 修好 了。 After a few days our bike was finally repaired.

一 開始 我們 以為 機車 損壞 (damage)的 狀況 很 嚴重 ，修 起來 應該 很 貴， At first we thought the damage was very serious and it must have been expensive to repair,

但是 機車行 的 師傅 跟 我們 說 因為 我們 才 剛買 這台車 ，還有 保固(guarantee)， but the motorbike dealer told us because we just bought this bike and it has a warranty,

所以 可以 免費 幫 我們 修理 ，所以 這 可以 算是 不幸 中 的 大幸。 he can help us repair it for free. We can call this "不幸中的大幸."

「不幸 中 的 大幸 」是 一句 我們 常講 的話， 「不幸中的大幸」is something we say a lot

意思 就是 你 發生 了 很 衰 的 事情 ，雖然 事情 本來 可能 會 變得 更糟 ，但是 最後 沒有 那麼 糟。 It means something bad happened to you, and although it could have gotten worse, it didn't end up that bad.

所以 我 說 這次 是 不幸 中 的 大幸， So I said our situation was 不幸中的大幸，

因為 機車 壞掉 有 可能 要花 很多 錢 去 修理， because it may cost a lot of money to repair the bike,

但是 有 保固 的 關係 ，我 最後 不用 花 這筆 錢， but because of warranty, I don't have to spend this money in the end,

所以 還 算是 幸運 的 啦！ so we can still be counted as lucky!

而且 我們 的 機車 應該 是 那 早就 有 問題 了， Also, our bike must have had a problem long before we headed to the beach,

因為 還沒 離開 家裡 的 時候 就 已經 開始 漏油 了， because it started leaking oil before we left the house.

但是 路上 都 沒有 發生 問題 ，到 了 海邊 之後 才 出 問題。 But there wasn't any problem on the road, and the problem did not occur until we got to the beach.

如果 在 半路上 機車 拋錨 的話 ，我們 應該 會 更 崩潰 吧！ If the bike broke down on the way, we would have had an even worse breakdown!

因為 那 天天 氣很熱， Because the weather was very hot that day,

如果 要 在 大 太陽 底下 等 機車行 的 師傅 來 救援 (rescue)，我們 應該 會 等 得 很 痛苦。 if we had to wait for the motorbike dealer to rescue us under the scorching sun, it would've been a pain to wait.

所以 這又是 另外 一個 不幸 中 的 大幸。 So this is another 不幸中的大幸.

希望 接下來 我們 的 機車 不會 再有 任何 問題 了。 Hopefully we won't have any more problems with our bike in the future.

不過 多虧 這次 的 經驗 ，我 覺得 至少 我 有 學到 東西， But thanks to this experience, I think at least I learned something,

我 學會 機車 拋錨 的 時候 要 怎麼 去 處理， I learned what to do when your bike breaks down,

所以 我 覺得 下次 我 不會 像 這次 這麼 崩潰 了。 so I don't think I will have a breakdown like this next time.
