副詞

Adverbs in Punjabi modify verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. They describe how, when, where, or to what extent an action occurs.

Common Types of Adverbs:

  1. Adverbs of Manner (how something happens):
    • ਤੇਜ਼ (Tez) – Quickly
    • ਧੀਰੇ (Dheere) – Slowly
    • ਸਹੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ (Sahi Tarah) – Properly
  2. Example:
    • He runs quickly. → ਉਹ ਤੇਜ਼ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਹੈ। (Oh tez daurda hai.)
  3. Adverbs of Time (when something happens):
    • ਅੱਜ (Ajj) – Today
    • ਕੱਲ੍ਹ (Kal) – Yesterday/Tomorrow
    • ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ (Hamesha) – Always
  4. Example:
    • I will come tomorrow. → ਮੈਂ ਕੱਲ੍ਹ ਆਵਾਂਗਾ। (Main kal avanga.)
  5. Adverbs of Place (where something happens):
    • ਇੱਥੇ (Itthe) – Here
    • ਉੱਥੇ (Utthe) – There
    • ਕਿਥੇ (Kithe) – Where
  6. Example:
    • He is sitting there. → ਉਹ ਉੱਥੇ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈ। (Oh utthe baitha hai.)
  7. Adverbs of Frequency (how often something happens):
    • ਅਕਸਰ (Aksar) – Often
    • ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ (Kade vi nahi) – Never
    • ਬਾਰ-ਬਾਰ (Bar-Bar) – Again and again
  8. Example:
    • I always eat breakfast. → ਮੈਂ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਨਾਸ਼ਤਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। (Main hamesha nashta karda han.)

Forming Adverbs

Many adverbs in Punjabi are formed by adding the suffix -ਤਾ (ta) or -ਂ (an) to adjectives.

Usage in Sentences:

  • She speaks softly. → ਉਹ ਧੀਰੇ ਬੋਲਦੀ ਹੈ। (Oh dheere boldi hai.)
  • We often go to the market. → ਅਸੀਂ ਅਕਸਰ ਬਾਜ਼ਾਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ। (Asin aksar bazaar jande han.)
