8 月 30 號 朋友 們 好 我 是 江峰 1931 年 的 北大 本來 就 活躍 的 學術 氛圍 中 又 多 了 一份 熱鬧 文學院 院長 鬍 適 請來 了 一位 國文 教授 這 教授 不 帶 搞子 開口 就 講 停下來 就 辯論 這 太 對 北大 才子 們 的 脾氣 了 於是乎 大家 為了 第二天 難為 這位 教授 前一天 晚上 三五成群 聚在一起 咱們 想 一個 刁鑽 點的 問題 再 找 兩個 學術 上 的 死結 第二天 拿 這些 去 難 為 老師 誰知 道 這個 老師 兵來將擋 水來土掩 這 問題 只要 你 問 的 出來 他 就 答得 上來 而且 生機盎然 妙趣橫生 還 不會 以 大師 自居 來 給 你 一番 說教 這 越 有 學問 越 謙虛 把 這幫 學子 們 佩服 的 五體投地 那個 時候 也 沒有 微信 、微博 也 沒 Facebook 就是 口耳相傳 北大 都 轟動 了 咱們 想 當年 這個 開 思想 風氣之先 的 北大 校園 有 追求 新 思想 、嚮往 變革 的 新潮 學生 也 就 有 試圖 在 中華 傳統 中 找到 復興 之 路 的 學子 們 無論是 誰 都 能 在 這位 教授 的 演講 中 受益 因為 很 簡單 中華文化 太 博大 了 海納百川 只是 太多 的 人 淺嘗輒止 如今 這位 教授 出現 似乎 給 大家 打開 了 一扇 通往 塵封 寶庫 的 大門 沒 上 幾堂 課 這 教授 就 找到 胡適 了 教授 開口 了 說 多多 叨擾 了 適之 兄 你 看 我 這一 上課 呀 窗戶 都 打開 了 窗臺上 都 坐滿 了 學生 我 是 擔心 這些 孩子 別 摔 著 了 這 被 稱作 適之 的 是 北大 文學院 院長 鬍 適 胡適 就 回答 了 噢 賓四兄 千萬 不要 見外 以後 在 學問 上 愚弟 還要 多多 討教 的 至於 這個 課室 的 事情 吧 看來 銘 堅兄 就是 顧頡剛 先生 沒有 推薦 錯 呀 他 說 您 來 北大 一定 會 大受歡迎 好嘛 我 這個 教室 的 問題 呀 早就 給 您 想 好 了 以後 您 就 到 北大 的 階梯 禮堂 開課 這位 北大 學子 們 喜歡 的 老師 還有 胡適 口中 的 這位 賓四兄 就是 中國 國學 宗師 錢穆 胡適 為 他 安排 的 那個 階梯 禮堂 能 容 下 300 多 人 禮堂 從 下 到 上 錢穆 他 講授 中國通史 課 每次 開課 坐著 的 、站著 的 滿坑滿谷 的 學生 那 課堂 又 大 人 又 多 加上 這 教室 一排 一排 的 排上去 的 從 那 頂上 往下 看 最 下面 講臺 上 錢穆 本來 個子 就 矮 還 穿著 一 長衫 顯得 更 矮小 了 就像 一個 博學 的 土豆 但 這位 小個子 的 導師 呢 卻 支配 了 全堂 的 神智 每堂 課 都 像 一場 辯論 場 大家 驚訝 於 他 的 這個 淵博 更 驚訝 於 他 記憶力 之 強 你 拿 什麼 問題 都 難不倒 他 你 在 下面 偷偷 的 翻 一本 古 文書 拿 出來 其中 一段話 他 還 記得 把 學生 們 佩服 壞 了 在 北大 呀 錢穆 與 胡適 都 因為 用 演講 的 方式 上課 而 馳名 學校 是 北大 最 叫座 的 教授 之一 學生 當中 就 有 這種 說法 叫 “北胡南 錢 ” 但是 就是 這個 對 錢 穆 有 知遇之恩 的 胡適 不久 之後 開始 跟 錢 穆 有 了 一些 爭執 雖然 表面 看來 都 是 一些 學術 之爭 但 實際上 卻是 20 世紀 中國 思想 潮流 之 爭 也 是 發展 到 今天 中國 傳統 文化 何去何從 的 矛盾 錢穆 出 生 於 江蘇 無錫 六歲 的 時候 進 私塾 讀書 辛亥革命 後 輟學 在家 高中 都 沒有 讀完 後來 18 歲 開始 就 在 當地 的 小學 教書 了 咱們 就 說 一看 高中 都 沒 讀完 咱 不能 按 現在 的 觀念 想當然 沒 讀過 大學 知識結構 不 完整 也 沒留 過洋 沒有 什麼 見識 吧 似乎 就要 看 低 別人 一等 了 不是 這樣 的 錢穆 他 來自 於 江南 小鎮 的 鄉村 就 在 這樣 的 鄉村 學堂 人文 風氣 極盛 錢穆 小學 四年 遇到 的 眾多 良師 都 是 當時 這個 江南 飽覽 詩書 的 舊式 文人 加入 自己 特別 勤奮好學 所以 為 他 日後 從事 國學 研究 打下 了 深厚 的 基礎 錢穆 他 生長 的 這個 學問 世界 實際上 是 一派 祥和 安寧 的 氛圍 根本 就 沒有 後來 五四運動 、新文化運動 這些 健將 們 筆下 所 抨擊 的 那種 封建 糟粕 的 氣息 反而 是 充滿 了 對 古聖先賢 的 溫情 與 敬意 既然 知道 中華 傳統 的 好 所以 錢穆 對 胡適 的 全盤西化 論 就 很 不以為然 了 他 說 什麼 是 西化 西化 就是 借屍還魂 就算 你 活過來 了 也 不是 我們 自己 了 錢穆 對 傳統 文化 和 傳統 社會 懷有 一 種 深深 的 迷戀 當年 錢穆 去 燕京大學 講課 跟 燕京大學 校長 司徒雷登 還是 第一次 見面 呢 他 當時 就 很 尖銳 的 提 出來 也 不 客氣 說 這個 教會 大學 據說 是 中國化 最好 的 學校 但是 我 一 進來 一看 學校 的 建築 都 是 用 拉丁字母 命名 的 什麼 M 樓 、 S 樓 結果 燕京大學 馬上 就 給 它 改過來 了 M 樓 改成 穆樓 S 樓 改成 適樓 另外 他 還 為 燕京大學 最美 的 一個 湖 起名 叫 未名湖 這一 名字 沿用 至今 成為 北大 的 代稱 咱們 再 回頭 看看 胡適 胡適 回憶 說 他 的 私塾 是 怎麼 個 情況 就是 那種 老師 天天 追著 學生 回家 去 把 這年 的 學費 給 要 回來 學生 還 經常 逃學 然後 老師 就 追著 打 抓著 一個 打 一個 是 這麼 一種 氛圍 這 跟 錢 穆深懷 敬意 的 那種 品德高尚 修身養性 的 舊 派 文人 是 沒法 相比 的 再 稍微 大 一點 胡適 就 離開 家鄉 去 了 上海 讀書 接受 西方 文明 和 進化論 的 教育 所以 您 看 他 把 名字 都 改 了 改成 胡適 適者生存 的 “ 適 ” 在 美國 學成 回國 後 胡適 就 找到 了 他 的 奮鬥 理念 就是 用 西方 的 文明 、 西方 的 文化 和 法治 來 治理 中國 數百年 的 積弱 和 墮性 這下子 兩個 人 之間 不 就 有 差異 了 嗎 所以 兩個 人 據說 第一次 見得 就 很 有意思 了 當 他們 第一次 見面 的 時候 胡適 已經 是 名滿天下 的 中國公學 校長 了 有 一次 他 到 蘇州 中學 去 演講 咱們 說 那個 時代 不像 今天 的 中國 大陸 暮氣沉沉 那個 時代 思想界 是 很 活躍 的 胡適 當時 他 就 領導 了 中國 最早 的 人權 運動 和 新文化運動 所以 他 到處 演講 宣講 他 的 理論 去 拉贊助 然後 辦 雜誌 出書 他 到 蘇州 中學 去 演講 有 一個 重要 的 目的 就是 國 學界 傳說 呀 蘇州 中學 有個 老師 叫做 錢穆 是 個 奇才 胡適 是 有 雄心 大志 的 他 是 準備 做 中國 當代 的 文化 領袖 的 那 就要 會 一會 各路 高手 了 結果 呢 兩人 見 著 面 了 錢穆當 是 正在 致力於 寫 一 本書 叫做 《 先秦 諸子系 年 》 他 看見 胡適 之後 上來 就 問 說 有 兩部 高論 是 專門 研究 史記 六國 年表 的 你 知道 在 哪 能 找到 嗎 胡適 一下 就 愣 了 雖然 他 也 研究 先秦 的 歷史 你 這個 問題 太 偏門 了 這書 在 哪 誰知 道 呀 他 身 簇擁 著 不少 官僚 學者 這一下 臉面 往 哪 掛 呀 掛不住 了 您 知道 嗎 這 就是 文人 的 高手 過招 別人 看不出 究竟 問的 問題 誰 都 不 知道 說 錢穆 先生 為 了 一個 問題 別人 這 看不出來 但 這邊 就 已經 是 鮮 血淋淋 了 第二天 胡適 就 走 了 蘇州 學界 竭力 挽留 說 您 再 留 一天 不能 留 了 他 給 了 一個 荒唐 的 理由 就是 忘記 帶 刮鬍子 刀 了 那 提前 回 上海 刮鬍子 去 了 實際上 就是 不想 再 跟 這位 錢穆 先生 在 一起 了 但是 胡適 是 有 氣度 的 他 使用 錢穆成 為 北大 文學院 的 講師 你 想 這 錢穆 不是 連 大學 都 沒 上過 嗎 辛亥革命 之後 就 輟學 了 這 在 北大 就算 破格 使用 了 但 錢穆 來到 之後 眾多 歷史 問題 上 與 胡適 就 開始 發生 爭執 最 有趣 的 就是 一個 錢穆 始終 堅持 孔子 比 老子 成書 的 時間 要 早 胡適 是 按照 這個 學院派 的 說法 是 堅持 老子 要 早 所以 北大 校園 學生 一時 也 分成 了 兩派 一個 是 挺 孔派 一個 是 挺 老派 氣氛 熱鬧 異常 胡適 就 對 大家 說 有人 說 我 偏向 老子 老子 又 不是 我 老子 不是 我爹 我 哪會 有 什麼 成見 呢 這 大學教授 介紹 各種 學說 學問 同學們 自 當 尋找 真理 你 看 當年 的 北大 就是 這樣 的 學術 氣氛 自由 、獨立 、寬容 抗日戰爭 後來 爆發 了 中國 各大 名校 學者 、學生 就 被迫 隨著 國民政府 遷到 了 西南 你 別說 就在 這 戰亂 不斷 的 時代 呀 卻是 中國 近代史 上 文化 藝術 最 輝煌 的 高產 期 錢穆 也 沒 落下 當時 他 推出 了 名著 《 國史大綱 》 書中 所 講述 的 是 從 國史 的 學習 辨識 當中 去 尋求 抗戰 救亡 之道 從 傳統 文化 的 演進 當中 去 吸取 民族 復興 和 國家 變革 的 精神力量 這種 堅定 自信 的 文化史 觀 使 當時 的 中國 人 特別 是 廣大 的 熱血 青年 深受 激勵 和 鼓舞 這就像公元123年 當時 蒙古 軍圍 攻擊 金國 首都 42 歲 的 金國 孤臣 元好問 一樣 你 說 那 國家 蒙難 之 時 蒙古 軍 已經 扣響 城門 了 元好問 卻 在 那裡 修書 修史 保存 國家 命脈 這是 真正 的 名士 氣節 1949 年 國共 內戰 國軍 節節敗退 共軍 渡過 長江 這是 一個 讓 中國 知識分子 最 痛苦 抉擇 的 時刻 是 留 還是 走 有人 就 肩負 中共 的 統戰 使命 過來 勸 錢穆 留下來 當時 錢穆 在 廣州 華僑大學 錢穆 就 問 他 的 朋友 說 毛澤東 的 新詩 發表 在 報紙 上 了 你 看見 了 嗎 朋友 說 哦 你 說 的 是不是 那首 人民解放軍 佔領 南京 對啊 你 也 是 搞 古文 研究 的 我 來 問 你 這個 文字 你 讀完 了 以後 你 覺得 毛澤東 這人 有 執掌 新政 的 胸懷 嗎 怎講 就 在 其中 啊 ‘宜將 剩勇 追 窮寇 不可 沽 名學 霸王 '就 這 一 句 西楚霸王 鴻門宴 不殺 劉邦 那 是 仁義 之 舉 反觀 劉邦 范增 是 怎麼 幫著 項羽 分析 的 說 劉邦 入關 前 貪財 好色 入關 後 不奪 財 奪 色 是 野心 之 人 果然 奪 天下 方 露出 織履 小人 本色 殺 韓信 、 殺 忠良 坐天下 毛澤東 ‘不可 沽名 學 霸王 '是 要 學 劉邦 啊 1949 年 10 月 華僑大學 南下 香港 錢穆 去 香港 組建 了 新雅 書院 就是 香港中文大學 的 前身 並 擔任 了 院長 隨後 毛澤東 發表 了 一篇 文章 叫做 “丟掉 幻想 準備 鬥爭 ” 在 這 篇 文章 裡 他 直接 就 點名 批評 了 錢穆 說 他 是 帝國主義 給 中國 造成 的 新式 的 大小 知識分子 之一 如果 錢穆 要 留 在 大陸 的話 恐怕 連 性命 都 不保 了 說 是 帝國主義 訓練 出來 的 知識分子 那 這樣 子 怎麼 會 有 今天 的 香港中文大學 呀 後來 中共 再度 對 錢穆 展開 了 統戰工作 中共 深 知道 錢穆 是 舊式 文人 最 尊師重道 最 注重 師生 情誼 的 所以 就 派 他 當年 的 蘇州 私塾 的 那個 老師 還有 他 的 侄子 錢偉長 給 他 寫信 勸 他 回 大陸 結果 錢穆 在 回信 說 了 我 看見 我 北大 的 朋友 馮友蘭 、朱光潛 我 看過 他們 的 遭遇 了 你 看 他們 在 運動 中 被迫 寫 那個 檢討 自我 醜化 那麼 做 跟 行屍走肉 有 什麼 不同 都 喪失 了 人 的 基本 的 尊嚴 這是 我 萬萬 做 不到 的 錢穆 說 他 願意 效仿 明末 的 朱舜水 流寓 日本 去 傳播 中國 文化 他 也 願意 待 在 香港 待 在 南國 續 中國 文化 之一 脈 錢穆 晚年 遷居 到 了 臺灣 雖 已 是 暮年 他 依然 性格 上 是 溫訥 溫厚 沒有 盛年 氣象 1989 年 錢穆 回到 香港 參加 了 新雅 書院 創校 40 週年 慶典 當時 老人 還 特別 興奮 告訴 他 夫人 胡美琪 說 我要 寫篇 大 文章 了 我 有 靈感 了 那個 時候 錢穆 他 已經 拿不動筆 已經 不能 寫字 了 夫人 嘛 就 哄 老頭 好好 好 咱們 回 臺灣 寫去 結果 錢穆 回到 臺灣 真的 寫 了 一篇 文章 《 中國 文化 對 人類 未來 的 貢獻 》 這是 錢穆 一生 最後 的 手筆 了 他 說 的 這個 貢獻 就是 “天人合一 觀 ” 他 認為 在 中國 古人 的 思想 中 天命 與 人生 是 合一 的 不能 分開來 錢穆 預言 說 此下 世界 文化 之 歸趨 必將 以 中國 傳統 文化 為 宗主 1990 年 的 8 月 30 日 歷史 上 的 今天 錢穆 離世 這 一天 臺灣 正面 遭到 颱風 襲擊 看錢穆 一生 95 歲 呀 從 孔子 、孟子 諸子 那裡 學來 了 價值 理想 並用 這種 價值 來 期許 我們 這個 社會 來 探索 中國 文化 的 出路 這 老人 是 寂寞 無助 啊 你 想 他 在 學術 上 錢穆 先生 也 不 被 胡適 、傅斯年 為 主 的 學院派 去 認可 認同 他 的 像 陳寅恪 這些 國學 大師 他們 認同 錢穆 但 從來 秉承 君子 群而 不黨 的 做人 原則 從來 就 沒有 跟 他 弄出 什麼 流派 出來 沒 站 在 一起 過 他們 都 很 孤獨 可是 現在 人類 社會 它 就是 一個 結黨營私 、人心 敗壞 、 隨波逐流 、風潮 四起 這麼 一個 社會 科學 與 現代化 越來越 昌明 卻 與 中國 古人 所稱 的 “道 ”漸行 漸遠 這樣 的 人 還能 走 回來 嗎 歷史 上 的 今天 錢穆
