King Henry the 8th was king of England from 1509-1547. He was married to six different women in his life. One of the reasons he got married so many times was because he wanted a son to be the next king after him.
Henry's first wife was Catherine of Aragon. They had one daughter together. Her name was Mary Tudor. They did not have a son so Henry wanted to divorce Catherine but the pope refused. Henry was mad so he left the Catholic church and became a protestant then divorced his first wife.
Henry's second wife was Anne Boleyn. Anne was a very beautiful woman. Henry married Anne. They had one daughter together. Her name was Elizabeth. But Anne also did not have a son so Henry wanted to divorce her. Henry said that Anne was a witch. He also said that Anne was cheating with 5 different men. Henry put Anne in prison and she was executed.
Henry's third wife was Jane Seymour. Jane and Henry had one son together. His name was Edward but Jane died 11 days after Edward was born. Henry was very sad.
Henry's fourth wife was Anne of Cleves. Anne was a German princess. Henry saw a picture of Anne of Cleves and he thought she was beautiful. He wanted to marry her. But when he saw her in real life he thought that she was ugly. Henry and Anne didn't have children together and Henry divorced her after 6 months.
Henry's fifth wife was Kathryn Howard. Some people did not like Kathryn and told the king that she had a secret lover. Henry was mad and put Kathryn in prison and she was executed.
Henry's sixth and last wife was Catherine Parr. They were married for five years until Henry got sick and died in 1547. He was 55 years old.
