The Dressmaker (2015)
A good foreign movie is able to touch audiences around the world. I didn't know what to expect when I first watched The Dressmaker (2015), but I trust Kate Winslet to choose good scripts, and I'm sure that other female moviegoers would agree that Liam Hemsworth is easy on the eyes. I had also seen Judy Davis act in another film, so I knew there were already at least three good actors whose performances I'd enjoy.
The movie tells the story of a woman who returns to her hometown in Australia to confront her past and the people who turned against her. She cleverly uses her dressmaking skills to find the truth and gain revenge.
I liked the film so much that I've seen it a few times already. The costumes are amazing, the story is gripping, and the humor is rewarding. The viewers feel the suffering of different characters, and their acts of courage delight us.
The movie poses a key question: Would you ever forgive an act of murder? What if it was accidental? What if it wasn't? The world of fiction allows us to ponder these thoughts at a safe distance.
