William Shakespeare. Sonnets, Sonnet 106

Sonnet 106

When in the chronicle of wasted time

I see descriptions of the fairest wights,

And beauty making beautiful old rime,

In praise of ladies dead and lovely knights,

Then, in the blazon of sweet beauty's best,

Of hand, of foot, of lip, of eye, of brow,

I see their antique pen would have express'd

Even such a beauty as you master now.

So all their praises are but prophecies

Of this our time, all you prefiguring;

And for they looked but with divining eyes,

They had not skill enough your worth to sing

For we, which now behold these present days,

Have eyes to wonder, but lack tongues to praise.

When in the chronicle of wasted time When in the chronicle of wasted time

I see descriptions of the fairest wights, I see descriptions of the fairest wights, Widzę opisy najuczciwszych potworów,

And beauty making beautiful old rime, I piękno tworzące piękny stary czas,

In praise of ladies dead and lovely knights,

Then, in the blazon of sweet beauty’s best, Następnie, w blasku najlepszego słodkiego piękna,

Of hand, of foot, of lip, of eye, of brow, Dłoni, stóp, warg, oczu, brwi,

I see their antique pen would have express’d Widzę, że ich antyczne pióro wyraziłoby

Even such a beauty as you master now. Nawet taka piękność jak ty.

So all their praises are but prophecies Więc wszystkie ich pochwały są tylko proroctwami

Of this our time, all you prefiguring;

And for they looked but with divining eyes, A oni patrzyli tylko wróżącymi oczami,

They had not skill enough your worth to sing

For we, which now behold these present days, Dla nas, którzy teraz patrzymy na te obecne dni,

Have eyes to wonder, but lack tongues to praise. Mają oczy, by się dziwić, ale brak im języków, by chwalić.
