LE MERCURE ET LE SCULPTEUR
Mercury was very anxious to know in what estimation he was held by mankind; so he disguised himself as a man and walked into a Sculptor's studio, where there were a number of statues finished and ready for sale.
كان عطارد حريصًا جدًا على معرفة تقدير البشر له؛ لذلك تنكر في صورة رجل ودخل إلى استوديو النحات، حيث كان هناك عدد من التماثيل الجاهزة للبيع.
Mercure était très désireux de savoir dans quelle estime il était tenu par l'humanité ; il se déguisa donc en homme et entra dans l'atelier d'un sculpteur, où se trouvaient un certain nombre de statues achevées et prêtes à être vendues.
Seeing a statue of Jupiter among the rest, he inquired the price of it.
وعندما رأى تمثالاً لجوبيتر بين التماثيل الأخرى، سأل عن ثمنه.
Voyant une statue de Jupiter parmi les autres, il en demanda le prix.
"A crown," said the Sculptor.
"تاج"، قال النحات.
"Une couronne", dit le sculpteur.
"Is that all?"
"هل هذا كل شيء؟"
said he, laughing; "and" (pointing to one of Juno) "how much is that one?"
قال ضاحكًا؛ (مشيرًا إلى واحدة من جونو) "كم ثمن تلك الواحدة؟"
"That," was the reply, "is half a crown."
"هذا"، كان الرد، "نصف تاج".
"And how much might you be wanting for that one over there, now?"
"وكم قد تريد مقابل ذلك الشخص الذي هناك الآن؟"
he continued, pointing to a statue of himself.
وتابع وهو يشير إلى تمثال لنفسه.
"That one?"
said the Sculptor; "Oh, I'll throw him in for nothing if you'll buy the other two."
