クマと旅行者
Two Travellers were on the road together, when a Bear suddenly appeared on the scene.
Deux voyageurs faisaient route ensemble lorsqu'un ours est soudain apparu.
2人の旅行者が一緒に道を歩いていたときに、クマが突然シーンに現れました。
Before he observed them, one made for a tree at the side of the road, and climbed up into the branches and hid there.
Avant qu'il ne les observe, l'une d'elles se dirigea vers un arbre au bord de la route, grimpa dans les branches et s'y cacha.
彼がそれらを観察する前に、人は道の脇の木を作り、枝に登ってそこに隠れました。
The other was not so nimble as his companion; and, as he could not escape, he threw himself on the ground and pretended to be dead.
L'autre n'était pas aussi agile que son compagnon et, comme il ne pouvait s'échapper, il se jeta par terre et fit semblant d'être mort.
もう一人は彼の仲間ほど機敏ではありませんでした。そして、逃げることができなかったので、彼は地面に身を投げ、死んだふりをしました。
The Bear came up and sniffed all round him, but he kept perfectly still and held his breath: for they say that a bear will not touch a dead body.
L'ours s'approcha et renifla tout autour de lui, mais il resta parfaitement immobile et retint son souffle, car on dit qu'un ours ne touche pas un cadavre.
クマが近づいてきて、くまなく嗅いだのですが、彼は完全に静かに息を止めました。クマは死体に触れないからです。
The Bear took him for a corpse, and went away.
L'ours le prit pour un cadavre et s'en alla.
クマは彼を死体に連れて行き、立ち去った。
When the coast was clear, the Traveller in the tree came down, and asked the other what it was the Bear had whispered to him when he put his mouth to his ear.
Lorsque la voie fut libre, le voyageur dans l'arbre descendit et demanda à l'autre ce que l'ours lui avait chuchoté lorsqu'il avait approché sa bouche de son oreille.
海岸が晴れると、木の旅人が降りてきて、クマが彼の口を耳に当てたときに彼が何をささやいたのか他の人に尋ねました。
The other replied, "He told me never again to travel with a friend who deserts you at the first sign of danger."
L'autre répondit : "Il m'a dit de ne plus jamais voyager avec un ami qui vous abandonne au premier signe de danger".
もう一人は答えた、「彼は二度と私に危険の最初の兆候であなたを砂漠化する友人と一緒に旅行するように私に言った」。
Misfortune tests the sincerity of friendship.
