L'AIGLE ET LA FLÈCHE
An Eagle sat perched on a lofty rock, keeping a sharp look-out for prey.
كان النسر يجلس على صخرة عالية، ويراقب الفريسة بنظرة حادة.
Un aigle, perché sur un rocher, guette ses proies.
A huntsman, concealed in a cleft of the mountain and on the watch for game, spied him there and shot an Arrow at him.
لقد رآه أحد الصيادين، الذي كان مختبئًا في شق في الجبل ويراقب الصيد، وأطلق سهمًا عليه.
Un chasseur, caché dans une fente de la montagne et à l'affût du gibier, l'aperçut et lui décocha une flèche.
The shaft struck him full in the breast and pierced him through and through.
لقد ضربته السهم في صدره واخترقته من الداخل والخارج.
Le bâton le frappe en pleine poitrine et le transperce de part en part.
As he lay in the agonies of death, he turned his eyes upon the Arrow.
وبينما كان يرقد في آلام الموت، حوَّل عينيه إلى السهم.
Alors qu'il agonise, il tourne son regard vers la Flèche.
"Ah!
cruel fate!"
"مصير قاسي!"
destin cruel !"
he cried, "that I should perish thus: but oh!
صرخ قائلاً: "أن أهلك هكذا، ولكن أوه!"
s'écria-t-il, que je périsse ainsi ; mais oh !
fate more cruel still, that the Arrow which kills me should be winged with an Eagle's feathers!"
"إن المصير سيكون أكثر قسوة، أن يكون السهم الذي يقتلني مجنحًا بريش النسر!"
destin plus cruel encore, que la flèche qui me tue soit revêtue des plumes d'un aigle !"
