الأسد والحمار البري
A Lion and a Wild Ass went out hunting together: the latter was to run down the prey by his superior speed, and the former would then come up and despatch it.
خرج أسد وحمار بري للصيد معًا: كان الأخير يلاحق الفريسة بسرعته المتفوقة، ثم يأتي الأول ويقتلها.
Un lion et un âne sauvage partaient ensemble à la chasse : le second devait faire tomber la proie grâce à sa vitesse supérieure, et le premier s'approchait ensuite pour l'abattre.
They met with great success; and when it came to sharing the spoil the Lion divided it all into three equal portions.
وقد لاقوا نجاحاً عظيماً؛ وعندما جاء الأمر إلى تقاسم الغنيمة، قام الأسد بتقسيمها كلها إلى ثلاثة أجزاء متساوية.
Ils remportèrent un grand succès et, au moment de partager le butin, le Lion le divisa en trois parts égales.
"I will take the first," said he, "because I am King of the beasts; I will also take the second, because, as your partner, I am entitled to half of what remains; and as for the third—well, unless you give it up to me and take yourself off pretty quick, the third, believe me, will make you feel very sorry for yourself!"
"سأأخذ الأول"، قال، "لأني ملك الوحوش؛ وسآخذ الثاني أيضًا، لأنه باعتباري شريكك، يحق لي نصف ما تبقى؛ وأما الثالث - حسنًا، ما لم تستسلم لي وتبتعد بنفسك بسرعة، فإن الثالث، صدقني، سيجعلك تشعر بالأسف الشديد على نفسك!"
"Je prendrai le premier, dit-il, parce que je suis le roi des bêtes ; je prendrai aussi le deuxième, parce qu'en tant que partenaire, j'ai droit à la moitié de ce qui reste ; et quant au troisième - eh bien, à moins que vous ne me l'abandonniez et que vous ne vous enleviez assez vite, le troisième, croyez-moi, vous fera beaucoup de peine !
