就労 ビザ だ と アメリカ に 住める 最長 年数 が 限られて いる ので 、 現在 その 就労 ビザ を 元 に グリーン カード と いう 、 ビザ の 制限 なく アメリカ に 住める よ 、 と いう ステータス の 申請 中 です 。 就労 ビザ から 永住 権 へ の 切り替え は 、色々 です ね 、制限 が あり まして 、

制限 が ある と いう か 、 雇用 主 が 主導 権 を 握って いる ので 、 なかなか スムーズに 進まない 部分 も 色々 あり 時間 が かかって います 。 その 申請 と は 別に 、永住権 の 申請 を する 権利 が 抽選 で 当たっちゃう と いう 、

いわゆる 、永住権 福引 プログラム なる もの が 1年 に 1回 ありまして 、毎年 運試し という 感じ で 夫婦 で 応募 していた のです が 、

去年 、なんと 当選 しまして 、

その 永住 権 福引 プログラム 、 英語 で は Diversity visa と か 、 green card lottely と かって 呼ばれて います が 、 それ ベース の 申請 も 同時 進行 中 です 。 ただ ね 、何度 も お 話して いる ので 知っている 方 も 多い と 思います が 、 この プログラム は 当選 して も 永住 権 が 必ず もらえる わけで は なく 、もちろん 申請 後 に 審査 で 落とさ れる 場合 も あります し 、 なんと言っても 去年 から 今年 に かけて は COVID の 、コロナ の 影響 で 移民局 や 各国 の アメリカ 大使館 の 業務 が 滞っていて 、

手続き が 全然 進ま ない 、書類 は 提出 した けど 全然 連絡 が 来 ない という 当選者 が たくさん います 。 そんな 中 、我々 は 当選 した 時 に 順番 待ち の 番号 が 振られる のです が 、その 番号 が 絶望的に 後ろ の 方 だった のです が 、

運よく 手続き 開始 の 順番 が 回って きまして 、

書類 を 提出 して 、それ が 受理 されて 、プロセス が スタート しました 。 そんな 状況 な んです が 、

この 前 の 月曜日 に 、biometrics 、fingerprint です ね 、指紋 。 そう 、指紋 の 採取 に 行って きました 。 この biometrics の 日付 も 移民 局 から 手紙 が 来て 、その 中 で 何月 何日 です よって 指定 さ れた のです が 、

ネット の 情報 だ と その 予定 日 、予約 日 って いう の かな 、よりも 前に 、アポ なし で 、 アポ なし で 予約 なし で 行く こと を walk-in って 言う んです が 、walk-in でも 指紋 採取 やって くれる 場合 が ある と 言う こと で 、 早ければ 早い 方が いい ので 、1日 でも 早く できた 方が いい と 思って 、

合計 2 回 、指定 日 より も 前 に walk-in を 試みました が 、両日 ともに 「現在 は コロナ も あって walk-in は やってません 」って 門前払い さ れ 、 結局 、当初 の 指定 日 であった 先週 の 月曜日 まで 待って 、指紋 採取 して きました 。 なんで そんなに 急いで いた か 、 指定 日 より も 前 に ね 、 アポ なし の walk - in に チャレンジ した か と いう と 、

この 福引 プログラム に は 、タイムリミット が ある んです 。

この コーナー で は 、アラフォー の 私 が アメリカ 人 の 若者 に 混ざって カレッジ で 勉強 する 様子 に ついて お話して います 。 アメリカ の 学校 関係 は 現在 夏 休み 真っ只中 な のです が 、私 は 1 クラス だけ ですが 、この 夏 も クラス を 取って います 。 パブリックスピーキング と いう 、 人前 で プレゼン を したり スピーチ を したり するって いう ね 、 そい う いう こと を 勉強 する クラス です 。 夏 は 、春学期 や 秋学期 と いう メイン の Semester と は 違って 、期間 が 短かく 、

短 期間 で 春秋 と 同じ 内容 、同じ 単位 が 取れる という 効率的に 勉強 できる 反面 、期間 が 短い からこそ スケジュール が 詰まって いて 、

毎日 の ように 課題 や クイズ の 提出 期限 が 設定 されて たり 、毎週 の ように 大きな 課題 を こなさ なければ ならなかったり と ハードです 。 私 の 取っている クラス は 7月 の 末 まで な ので 、あと 2 週間 です ね 。

2 週間 な のです が 、その 間 に 大きな 課題 が 2 つ あり 、それ に 取り掛かり 始めて います 。 2つ の うち 問題 な の が 、グループ プロジェクト です 。

その 名 の 通り 、グループ を 組んで 1 つ の 課題 に 取り組む んです が 、

今回 の プロジェクト は 、私 を 含めて 6 人 の グループ で 、特定の TED トーク が 課題 として 与えられて 、 TED トークって 日本 の 皆さん も 今 知ってる の か な 、 著名人 が 専門 分野 に ついて スピーチ したり プレゼン したり する やつ なんです けど 、

ある 特定 の スピーチ を お題 として 渡されて 、それ を 分析して 、こういう スピーチ の テクニック を 使ってる とか 、スピーチ の 中 の この 部分 では こういう こと を 伝えたい んだ とか 、 そういう こと を みんな で 意見 を 出して 話し合い 、

更に は 、その 分析 を 裏付ける ため の リサーチ です ね 、参考 文献 を 探して 、引用 しつつ 説明して 、まとめる という 。

そして そして 、 最後に その まとめた もの を グループ スピーチ と して 発表 する と いう 内容 です 。

ひえ ーーーーーって 感じ でしょ 。 まず ね 、ちゃんと した グループ プロジェクト って 私 アメリカ で やった こと が なくて 、 ESL、英語 学習者 用 の クラス で 、すごく ゆるーい グループプレゼンテーション は やった こと あります が 、それ は いつも 近く に 座ってる 友達 同士 で グループ を 組んで 進める の も 楽だった んです が 、 今回 は 先生 が グループ 分け を して 、

全然 知ら ない 人 と グループ を 組んで います 。 って いう か ね 、そもそも 誰 も 友達 も 知り合い も クラス に いない ので 、誰 と グループ を 組んで も 誰 も 知ら ない んです けど ね 。 いや ー 、 でも ね 、 とても 苦労 して います 。 苦労 って いう か 、困惑 。 ちょっと どうして いい の か わから ない 感じ 。 勝手 が わから な すぎて 、どう 立ち 振舞って いい の か わからない んです よ 。

どういう ところ で 戸惑って いる かって いう と 、 私 が アメリカ に 来て から これ まで 一 番 関わり を 持ってこなかった であろう 、

若者 の 男の子 と の やりとり 。

とりあえず グループ 内 の やりとり は 携帯 の テキスト で チャットグループ を 作って 基本 それ と 、

あと は 長い 説明 と か 文章 と か の アイデア と か は Google Doc なんです が 、

私 は 英語 微妙だ し 、なんか 皆 もちろん 絵文字 と か 使わない し 、砕けてる し 、

ちょっと 戸惑ってます 。 6 人 中 4 人 が 男の子 で 、女の子 が 1 人 いる んです けど 、なんか 基本 いつも 仕事 している みたいで あまり 会話 に 入って こなくて 、

男の子 たち の 会話 の 中 に ポツッ と オバさん 混ざってます って 感じ な んです よ 。 まあ ね 、これ が in-person ,対面 授業 の クラス で 面 と 向かって 相談 とか するって なる と 、 それ は それ で ちょっと やり ずらそう です けど 、

緊張 も し そうだ し 。

でも 、わからない 、ここまで の 感想 で 言う と 、やっぱり 顔 を 見合って 直接 会って 色々 相談 できた 方が 進め やすい んじゃないかな ーって 思います 。 オンライン クラス な ので 、教室 で 授業 を 一緒に 受けてる わけで は ない ので 誰 が どんな キャラ か とか 、誰 が 勉強 できる の か とか 真面目な の か 不真面目な の か とかも 全然 わから ない し 、

なんか 暗闇 を 進む 感じ です 。

一応 先生 が リーダー を 決めて 、その リーダー 、私たち の チーム の リーダー は フェルナンド 君 な んです が 、

フェルナンド 君 は 結構 積極的に 色々 みんな の 意見 を 聞いたり 進めて くれたり する んです けど 、

でも ね 、課題 の 進め方 って 個人 で やり方 違う し 、しかも メンバー それぞれ の 日々 の スケジュール も バラバラ だし で 、大丈夫 か な って 感じ です 。 全然 意見 出さ ない 、チャット の 会話 に 入って こない 人 も いる んです けど 、

私 は とりあえず 、できる だけ 参加 する ように 心がけてます 。 なんか ちょっと した 会話 の 表現 と かも 、

ツンケン してない か な ー みたいな 、「 でも こっち の 方 が 良くない ？ 」と かね 、自分 の 意見 を 通したい 時 と か 、 どんな 言い 方 を すれば 角 が 立たない の か とか 気に しちゃいます ね 。 でも 、あまり それ を 気にしちゃう と 、遠回り な 説明 すぎて 、結局 何 を 言っている の か わからない って ことに なっちゃう し 、 たぶん ね 、あまり 気 に せず 直球 で 言いたい こと を 言った 方が いい んです けど ね 。 いや ー 、 グループ プロジェクトって 難しい です ね 。 個人 で やる 課題 なら 自分 の 好きな ように 、納得 する 方法 、方向性 で 進めて いけます けど 、 他の 人 と ひとつ の もの を 仕上げる って なる と そう は 行かない です から ね 。 他の 人 の 意見 が

あ 、微妙 だ なって 思って も 、自分 の 意見 を 説明 して 説得 でき ない と ダメ だし 。
