Grandma's Bananas
할머니의 농장은 사탕 수수, 잡곡, 고구마로 가득 했어요.
Die Farm meiner Großmutter war voll mit Zuckerrohr, verschiedenen Getreidesorten und Süßkartoffeln.
Grandma's farm was full of sugar cane, cereals, and sweet potatoes.
하지만 그 중 최고는 할머니의 바나나들이였어요.
But the best of them were Grandma's bananas.
할머니는 많은 손주들 이 있었지만, 할머니는 저를 가장 좋아한다는 것을 비밀리에 알고 있었어요.
Meine Großmutter hatte viele Enkelkinder, aber sie wusste insgeheim, dass ich ihr Liebling war.
Grandma had many grandchildren, but I secretly knew that she liked me the most.
할머니는 저를 자주 초대해 주셨어요.
My grandmother invited me often.
그리고 할머니는 조그만 비밀들을 저에게 말해 주셨어요.
And my grandmother told me little secrets.
하지만 할머니는 한가지 비밀이 있었어요.
Aber Oma hatte ein Geheimnis.
But Grandma had a secret.
바나나를 어디서 익히는지 알려주시지 않으셨어요.
Sie haben uns nicht gesagt, wo Sie Ihre Bananen reifen lassen.
You didn't tell me where bananas are ripe.
어느 날 할머니 집 밖 햇빛에 놓여있는 아주 큰 바구니를 봤어요.
Eines Tages sah ich vor dem Haus meiner Großmutter einen sehr großen Korb in der Sonne stehen.
One day I saw a very large basket lying in the sunlight outside my grandmother's house.
제가 할머니에게 저 바구니는 어디에 쓰는 것이냐고 물어봤을때, 할머니는 단지 “이것은 나의 마술 바구니야.” 라고만 말해주셨어요.
When I asked my grandmother what that basket was for, she just said, "This is my magic basket." You just said
그 바구니 옆에 할머니가 가끔 뒤집어 놓으시는 바나나 잎들이 몇장 있었는데 저는 항상 그것들이 어디에 쓰이는지 궁금했어요.
Neben dem Korb lagen einige Bananenblätter, die meine Großmutter manchmal umdrehte, und ich habe mich immer gefragt, wofür sie verwendet wurden.
Next to that basket were some banana leaves that my grandmother sometimes turned over, and I always wondered what they were used for.
“할머니, 저 잎사귀 들은 어디에 쓰시는 거에요?” 라고 물어봤어요.
"Oma, wofür verwendest du diese Blätter?", fragte ich.
“Grandma, what are you using those leaves for?” I asked.
하지만 할머니는 오로지 “그 잎사귀들은 나의 마술 잎들이야.” 라고만 대답해 주셨어요.
But Grandma only said, "Those leaves are my magic leaves." You just answered.
할머니, 바나나들, 바나나 잎사귀들, 그리고 그 큰 바구니는 보는것만으로도 정말 재밋었어요.
Oma, die Bananen, die Bananenblätter und der große Korb waren einfach so lustig anzusehen.
Grandma, the bananas, the banana leaves, and that big basket were so much fun just to look at.
하지만 할머니는 저를 어머니께 심부름 하라고 보냈어요.
Aber meine Großmutter schickte mich, um eine Besorgung für meine Mutter zu machen.
But my grandmother sent me to run errands for my mother.
“할머니, 제발 보게 해주세요…” “고집부리지 말고 내가 시킨 것을 하거라,” 라고 시키셨어요.
"Oma, bitte lass mich sehen..." und "Sei nicht so stur und tu, was ich dir sage."
“Grandma, please let me see…” “Don’t be stubborn and do what I tell you to do,” he told me.
저는 그 자리를 떠났어요.
I left the place.
제가 돌아왔을때, 할머니는 밖에서 앉아 계 셨어요.
When I came back, my grandmother was sitting outside.
하지만 바구니와 바나나들은 보이 지 않았어요.
But the basket and the bananas were nowhere to be seen.
“할머니, 바구니 어디있어요?
바나나는 어디있고, 그리고 …” 하지만 할머니는 오직, “그것들은 내 마법 장소에 있 어.” 라는 답밖에 듣지 못했어요.
Wo sind die Bananen, und ..." Aber Oma sagte nur: "Sie sind in meinem Zauberladen." war die einzige Antwort.
Where are the bananas, and... ” But Grandma only said, “They are in my magic place.” I could only hear an answer.
정말 실망했어요!
I was really disappointed!
이틀 뒤, 할머니는 할머니 방에 있는 지팡이를 가져와 달라고 부탁하셨어요.
Zwei Tage später bat mich meine Großmutter, ihren Stock aus ihrem Zimmer zu holen.
Two days later, Grandma asked for a cane from Grandma's room.
할머니 방 문을 열자마자, 바나나 익는 냄새가 진동을 했어요.
Sobald ich die Tür zum Zimmer meiner Großmutter öffnete, schlug mir der Geruch von reifen Bananen entgegen.
As soon as I opened the door to my grandmother's room, the smell of bananas wafted through me.
할머니의 방 구석쪽에 그 마법의 바구니를 발견했어요.
I found the magic basket in the corner of my grandmother's room.
그 바구니는 낡은 이불로 잘 감춰져 있었어요.
The basket was well hidden by an old blanket.
저는 그 이불을 들어 아주 환상적인 냄새를 맡았어요.
Ich nahm diese Steppdecke in die Hand und roch etwas Fantastisches.
I lifted the blanket and smelled a very fantastic smell.
할머니가 “너 뭐하고있니?
Grandma said, “What are you doing?
어서 지팡이를 가지고 오너라.” 라고 얘기 하셨을때, 저는 깜짝 놀랐어요.
Als er sagte: "Kommen Sie, holen Sie Ihren Stock", war ich fassungslos.
Hurry up and bring your wand.” When you said that, I was surprised.
저는 서둘러서 지팡이를 갖다 드렸어요.
Ich eilte herbei und holte ihm seinen Stock.
I hurriedly brought the staff to him.
“뭐 때문에 그렇게 웃고있니?” 라고 할머니가 물어보셨어요.
"Worüber lächelst du?", fragte meine Großmutter.
“What are you laughing at?” asked the grandmother.
할머니의 질문 후, 제가 아직도 할머니의 마법 장소를 발견했다는것에 대해 웃고 있다는 것을 알게 되었어요.
Nach ihrer Frage merkte ich, dass ich immer noch über die Entdeckung des magischen Ortes meiner Großmutter lachte.
After my grandmother's question, I realized that I was still laughing about discovering her magical place.
다음 날 할머니가 어머니를 뵈러 오셨을때, 저는 할머니 집에 가서 바나나들을 한번 더 확인 했어요.
The next day when my grandmother came to see my mother, I went to her house and checked the bananas one more time.
너무나도 잘 익은 바나나들이 많이 있었어요.
Es gab eine Menge überreifer Bananen.
There were a lot of ripe bananas.
저는 하나를 주워서 제 치마 속으로 넣었어요.
Ich hob eine auf und steckte sie in meinen Rock.
I picked one up and tucked it under my skirt.
그 바구니를 다시 덮고, 집 뒤로 와서 가지고 온 바나나를 빨리 먹었어요.
I covered the basket again, came back to the house, and quickly ate the bananas I had brought with me.
제가 맛본 바나나 중에 가장 달았어요.
Es war die süßeste Banane, die ich je gegessen habe.
It's the sweetest banana I've ever tasted.
그 다음 날, 할머니가 정원에서 야채들을 따고 계셨을때, 저는 다시 바나나들을 보러 갔어요.
The next day, when my grandmother was picking vegetables in the garden, I went back to look at the bananas.
거의 모든 바나나들이 익었어요.
Almost all bananas are ripe.
저는 참지 못하고 네개를 가져왔어요.
Ich konnte nicht widerstehen und nahm vier.
I couldn't stand it and brought four.
제가 문쪽으로 갔을때 할머니의 기침소리를 들었어요.
Als ich zur Tür ging, hörte ich sie husten.
When I went to the door, I heard Grandma coughing.
저는 겨우 다시 바나나를 치마 속으로 넣었고 아무렇지 않게 할머니를 지나쳤어요.
Ich schaffte es, die Banane wieder in meinen Rock zu stecken und ging an ihr vorbei, ohne mich weiter um sie zu kümmern.
I managed to slip the banana back into my skirt and passed her casually.
그 다음날 할머니는 일찍 일어 나셨어요.
The next day, Grandma woke up early.
그 녀는 항상 잘 익은 바나나들과 고구마를 들고 시장에 가셔서 파셨어요.
She always brought ripe bananas and sweet potatoes to the market to sell.
저는 그날 할머니께 방문하지 않았어요.
Ich habe meine Großmutter an diesem Tag nicht besucht.
I didn't visit my grandmother that day.
하지만 그렇게 오래는 버티지 못했어요.
Aber es dauerte nicht so lange.
But it didn't last that long.
그날 밤, 저는 엄마아빠 그리고 할머니에게로 부터 불려갔어요.
In dieser Nacht wurde ich von meiner Mutter, meinem Vater und meiner Großmutter angerufen.
That night, I was called away by my mom and dad and grandma.
저는 제가 왜 불려갔는지 알아요.
I know why I was called.
그날 밤 제가 자려고 누웠을 때, 다시는 훔쳐서는 안된다고 생각했어요.
In dieser Nacht, als ich mich zum Schlafen hinlegte, dachte ich mir, dass ich nie wieder stehlen sollte.
When I lay down to sleep that night, I thought I should never steal again.
할머니에게서도, 부모님에게서도, 그리고 확실히 누구한테서도요.
Nicht von meiner Großmutter, nicht von meinen Eltern, und schon gar nicht von irgendjemandem.
From grandma, from parents, and certainly from anyone.
