פִּתְאֹם מִן הַסְּבַךְ נִשְׁמַע קוֹל יְלָלָה.

אַרְיֵה זִנֵּק מִן הַחֹשֶׁךְ בְּלִי לַעֲצֹר,

חִישׁ הִתְנַפֵּל וְטָרַף אֶת הַחֲמוֹר!

אָמַר רַ' עֲקִיבָא.
אֲבָל לְאַחַר שָׁעָה קַלָּה

שׁוּב נִשְׁמְעָה נְהָמָה אוֹ יְלָלָה.

קָפַץ בִּזְרִיזוּת וּבָלַע אֶת הַתַּרְנְגוֹל.

"וּבְכָל זֹאת, כְּדַאי שֶׁאַדְלִיק אֶת הַנֵּר,
