Kimdi bu Stan Lee?

Geçen hafta 95 yaşında hayata gözlerini yuman bu isim, benim bu seride daha önce anlattığım Elon Musk gibi bir girişimci ya da Stephen Hawking gibi bir bilim insanı değil. Ama Elon Musk'a çok benzetilen çizgi roman karakteri Iron Man kostümlü Tony Stark'ı, Elon Musk daha doğmadan 8 yıl önce 1963'te yaratan bir yazar. Sadece Iron Man değil, Marvel çizgi roman evrenindeki Spider-man, X-men, Fantastic Four, Hulk, Daredevil, Thor, Black Panther gibi pek çok süper kahraman bizlerin hayatına bir şekilde girmeden önce onun ve çizer arkadaşlarının zihninde oluşmaya başlamıştı.

Öldükten sonra hakkında video yapmaya karar vermemi sağlayan şeyse sadece bu karakterler değil. Onun hayat hikayesinde yakaladığım ilham verici bir kaç ayrıntı…

Her şeyden önce kariyerine çizgi roman yazarı olarak başlayan Stan Lee'nin gerçek adı Stan Lee değil. Kendisine böyle bir takma ad koyma ihtiyacı hissetmiş. Çünkü işe başladığı 1940'lı yıllarda çizgi romanların toplumdaki algısı çok kötüymüş. Şimdilerdeki YouTuber olmak gibiymiş çizgi roman yazarı olmak Oysa Stan Lee yıllar sonra da hatırlanacak çok önemli bir roman yazmak istiyormuş: “Bir gün gelecek ve ben o büyük Amerikan romanını yazacağım” diye bizzat kendisi bir röportajında söylüyor. Buradaki “Büyük Amerikan Romanı” deyiminin bizdeki karşılığı mesela “İnce Memed”dir. Nobel Edebiyat Ödülü'ne aday gösterilen ilk yazarımız olan Yaşar Kemal'in saygınlığına benzer bir saygınlık elde etmek. Hangi yazar istemez ki? İşte Türkiye'de Yaşar Kemal'in İnce Memed'i yazdığı yıllarda Stan Lee de Kaptan Amerika çizgi romanını yazıyormuş. Ve olur da ileride hayallerindeki gibi bir romancı olursa adı lekelenmesin diye kendi ismini kullanmaktan kaçınmış.

Gel gör ki hiçbir zaman öyle bir romancı olamadı. Ama çok iyi bir hikaye anlatıcısı oldu. Neden mi? Lee'den önceki süper kahramanlar gerçekten süperdi. Kusursuz karakterlerdi. Hangi insan böyle olmak istemez ki? Ama hiçbirimiz kusursuz değiliz. İşte Lee, çizgi roman dünyasındaki süper kahramanlara insani kusurları ekledi ve bizim onlarla daha iyi özdeşleşebilmemizi sağladı.

Örümcek adamı bir düşünün. İnce Memed gibi o da bir yetim. Kostümüyle duvardan duvara sıçrayıp dünyayı kötülerden kurtarırken, kostümsüz bir Peter Parker olduğunda geçim sıkıntısı çeken bir genç. Odaya giren bu kişi Örümcek Adam'ın en büyük düşmanlarından biri: Norman Osborn. Tabii ki her hikayede problemlerin yanında, o problemleri çıkaran kötüler de vardır. İnce Memed'in düşmanı köylüye eziyet eden Abdi Ağa'ydı. İşte Norman Osborn da böyle bir ağa. Dünyanın en büyük köylerinden biri olan New York'ta terör estiren bir kişi. Abdi Ağa, romanın ilk cildinde Memed'in sevgilisi Hatçe'yi kendi yeğeniyle evlendirmeye kalkıyordu ya… Gözümüzün içine sokulan kaba bir oyunculuk. Ama mesajı almayan kalmadı. Örümcek Adam öyle bir duruma sokuldu ki bir yandan gerçek kimliği ortaya çıkmak üzere, öte yandan kız arkadaşı en büyük düşmanının pençesinde. Bizler de izleyici olarak “şimdi nasıl bu durumdan kurtulacak?” sorusunu kendimize sorarken kendimize sormamız gereken “peki biz kendi durumumuzdan nasıl kurtulacağız?” sorusunu bir süre daha erteleyebildik.

Şimdi iyi bir şey mi söyledim, yoksa kötü bir şey mi diye düşünmeyin canım. Kendiniz karar verin. Stan Lee'nin hikayeciliği açısından baktığımızda onun yarattığı karakterlerin sadece uçan kaçan karakterler olmadığını gösteriyor bu… Gerçek hayattan ve gerçek insanlardan yola çıktığını görüyoruz. Yani sanat hayatı taklit ediyor.

Lee'nin başka problemli süper kahramanları da var. Mutantlardan oluşan X-Men'i düşünün şimdi de. Bunların derdi daha da karmaşık. Savundukları, kurtarmaya çalıştıkları insanlar kendilerinden nefret ediyor. Dış görünüşlerinden dolayı dışlanıyorlar. Stan Lee bunu 60'lı yıllarda başlayan insan hakları hareketine bir metafor olarak yazdığını söylüyor. “Herkesin imrendiği süper kahramanlar yerine, insanların korktuğu, şüphe duyduğu, sırf farklı olduğu için nefret ettiği birileri nasıl olurdu?” diyor yine bir röportajında.

İşte mutantlar bu şekilde ortaya çıkmış. Stan Lee'nin bunları yazdığı o dönemde zenciler bir çeşit mutant olarak görülüyordu. Başka yerlerde ve zamanlarda başka azınlıklar da böyle görüldü. Lee, halkların eşitliği ve ırkçılık konusundaki düşüncelerini sadece mutant metaforuyla sınırlamamak için bir adım daha ileriye gitti ve ilk Afrika kökenli süper kahraman olan Black Panther'ı yarattı. Gerçek durumun tam tersine Afrika'da teknolojik açıdan dünyanın en gelişmiş medeniyetini kurguladı. 1960'lı yıllar için oldukça radikal sayılabilecek fikirler bunlar. “Bağnazlık ve ırkçılık, bugün dünyanın başına bela olan en ölümcül sosyal hastalıklardır.” 1968'de yazılmış bir gazete köşesi filan değil bu. Aylık yayınlanan bir çizgi roman köşesi.

Demek ki hangi köşeyi tuttuğumuzun, ne iş yaptığımızın pek de bir önemi yok. Eğer ideallerimiz varsa, o ideali gerçekleştiremesek bile yaptığımız her şeye onun kokusu siniyor. Stan Lee büyük bir romancıya dönüşmek istiyordu. O idealine ulaşamadı. Ama ona ulaşma çabası bile anlattığı bu hikayelere bir farklılık kattı.

“Bu hikayelerde, ırkı, cinsiyeti, dini ve ten rengi ne olursa olsun herkese yer var. Yer olmayan tek şey, nefret, hoşgörüsüzlük ve bağnazlıktır.”

Bu karakterlerin diğerlerinden biraz daha farklı olduğu kesin. Peki Stan Lee'nin kariyerine nasıl bir etkisi oldu?.. Yaşar Kemal gibi bir Nobel edebiyat ödülüne aday filan gösterilmedi. Ama 70 yılda yarattığı 300'den fazla karakterin pek çoğunun adını bugünkü çocuklar ezbere sayabiliyor. Çünkü o çocuklar da yaşadıkları tüm problemlere rağmen içlerinde bir yerde bir farklılık olduğunu hissediyor. Tek dertleri kız arkadaşlarının gözünde havalı görünen bir kahraman olmak değil. Haksızlıklar karşısında bir şeyler yapma hayalleriyle yaşayan gençler de var.

Hepimizin içinde yatan bir süper kahraman ideali var. Yaşar Kemal, İnce Memed'e, yazdığı başka bir karakterin ağzından şu nasihati vermişti: “Sen ne sanıyorsun oğlum Memed, İnce Memedler bitecek mi sanıyorsun? Her insanın içinde bir mecbur kurdu, bir İnce Memedlik, bir Köroğluluk kurdu var.”

Bir mutantlık var…

Süper kahramanlar hiç bitmeyecek.

“İnsanoğlunun içindeki kurt.” Eski destanlarımızdan süzülüp gelen ne muhteşem bir benzetme. Keşke Yaşar Kemal'in yanında da Stan Lee'nin yanındaki gibi çizerler olsaydı diye düşünmeden edemiyor insan. Keşke kendisini çok etkileyen ressam Abidin Dino'yla bir ikili oluşturup romanların yanında çizgi romanlar da yapsalardı. Keşke İnce Memed gibi süper kahramanların filmlerini yapma fikri Peter Ustinov'dan önce bizim aklımıza gelseydi. İyi hikayelere hepimizin ihtiyacı var. Özellikle kendi hayat hikayesini daha yeni yeni yazmaya başlayan gençlerin… Çünkü iyi hikayeler, tıpkı eski destanlarda olduğu gibi onlarla konuşur.

“Neyi konuşacağız? Niye şimdi?”

Stan Lee kimdi? Kendi içindeki potansiyeli nasıl değerlendirebileceğini tam olarak bilemeyen kafası karışık Peter Parker gibi bir gençti. Büyük bir romancı olmak isterken bir çizgi roman yazarına dönüşen bir genç.

“Değişiyorsun. Senin yaşında ben de aynı şeyleri yaşadım.”
