We Ran Down The Most Infamous Ski Slope In The World... And This Is What Happened
Okay, not long to go now.
This is where the heroes are truly made.
I'd like to say say stuff,
right?
Just put in trying to run.
Hi, I'm Jess and I'm Tobias and today on The Running Channel you are about to witness us taking
on one of the toughest running races in the world.
Yes, The Running Channel have challenged us to the descent.
A race on the world's most notorious downhill ski slope.
Hahnenkamm in Kitzbuhel Austria.
Yes.
And for the first time this year, runners are set off in teams of two.
One will run down the 350 m slope and then the other will run back
up.
Now, this may not sound too difficult, 350 m.
But did we mention the fact there's a 80% vertical gradient either way.
It's bloody hard.
Yeah.
So stay tuned to see if we end up on the podium or a stretcher.
But first help us out.
We're trying to reach 500,000 subscribers by Christmas and you can help us by hitting
that subscribe button.
So click that button and that's race.
Ready?
What?
No, wow.
Yeah, Yeah.
Oh, jess.
After you.
My dear God, I should have written a will.
Do you wanna swap?
Nice.
You'll be fine.
You'll be fine.
Just don't worry about it.
Just go for it.
Just go, just go,
Okay, okay, we are at the top of the mountain,
Got about five minutes to go and the pre race nerves are really starting to creep in.
But you do get distracted by the most amazing view I think I've ever seen.
It's incredible!
But I have noticed that the other people running down running down the mountain,
the muscles on their legs ridiculous and I'm here looking at
mine going, nope,
So to add another level of difficulty, we don't just have to run down and stay
alive, We've also got to go through ski like slalom gates as
well.
So if you miss one of those, you're disqualified as if it wasn't hard enough, I'm not going to work out where I'm
going as well.
It's started and it's all getting very, very real
good.
Come on Jess, come on, Jess, I can do this, I can do this, I can do this,
Oh, here we go.
Thank you.
I'm gonna need it.
Here we go.
So I'm just gonna go through the gates
Oh you guys, wow!
Here we go.
321,
okay, and go, I feel like this is a really, really cool
initiation by Sarah and Andy, let's just chuck the new girl
down a cliff and see if she survives.
Oh, jesus christ,
They didn't prepare me for this in cross country at school at all
this Oh God, this, second gate, second gate.
Oh blimey second gate, okay, we're through,
wow.
So I'm just waiting for Jess to come down.
I can see her coming down the hill and she is, she's going for it man.
She's looking like a complete natural.
Mhm Okay guys, I'm serious.
No, I am out here absolutely risking my life.
And that is not an exaggeration.
My mum's having palpitations.
The least you can do.
is give this like kind of flipping subscribe.
Keep going Jess, this is fun remember.
Type one fun!
Hey, okay, now you're halfway point.
Those cowbells man.
Well, okay, how are you going?
Oh my God, Okay,
okay, this is ridiculous.
They keep calling me Anna because Anna was actually meant to be running this, but injured herself,
omg this is tough.
So I'm compelled there.
Oh my God, this is oh my God.
Oh my God.
Oh, you're over!
Over up, we're down again.
Yeah, way down again and they
both go there.
Just ain't gonna be fast,
my time, but somebody winning time guys, but
I'm alive.
Yeah, here we go.
Still alive.
And in my head, that is a win now, Like this
video.
Oh my God, that was absolutely insane.
That was so much fun.
Both terrifying and exciting and equal measure.
I thought it was gonna break my ankle about 10 times.
Did stack it off coming down the podium at the beginning, which wasn't my finest
moment, but hey, I'm still here.
I'm still whole, which is absolutely fab.
But anyway, I've run down so now it's time to see how Tobias gets on running up.
I got to say, not jealous of that.
Not long to go now.
This is where the heroes are truly made.
I'd like to say the things I do for The Running Channel.
It is deceptively steep, deceptively hard.
I'm gonna have to use my buff to its
extremities and uh it's quite bright in your face.
So uh so yeah, we gotta go all the way up their mega man.
Okay, We are off officially.
Everybody's taking a slightly different tactic.
He's going up on the left, which is interesting, but you still need to go through the hoop
steady all right.
Mhm Good grief.
I've already reduced to a walk.
Any idea of doing a run?
He's gone.
He's using my hands
Every 2nd 1.
Passage safer.
This is so hard.
Just put in trying to run this is brutal.
I can say great time.
Oh jess.
You are so lucky, so lucky.
Yeah, There's nothing quick or glamorous
about this.
How can I just go around the thistles
so hard.
Thank you.
Oh, we're going now.
Well, what an intense race.
How did you find that
Tobias? That was beyond brutal.
I had, I didn't know quite what to expect, but I was huffing and puffing like billy goat gruff.
It was, it was I'm still shaking now actually, I I have this like my legs
feel like jelly, like a great feeling.
I was fantastic.
Running downhill was incredibly exciting but also terrifying in equal measure.
But I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
I mean the atmosphere here, the fantastic views, it's been such an honour to be a part of this.
How do you think we did?
I mean, what are our times?
Well, my time personally with 02:58 I know the fastest downhill was 01:22
So a bit of a difference but still pretty proud of myself.
How about you?
Yeah, so I was 5:13 going up with a winning time of 4:22 so a little bit
less than a minute from the, from the top person.
But we came seventh out of eight.
So we didn't come last.
Top brit.
We did that.
It was absolutely brilliant.
Well, we really hope that you've enjoyed following us on this fantastic race adventure.
Would you ever consider running down a ski slope?
