-(앵커) 국내에서 플라스틱이나 폐그물 같은 각종 해양 쓰레기를 삼켜서 죽는 바다거북이 한 해 수십 마리에 달합니다.

최근에는 낚싯바늘을 삼켜 폐사한 바다거북도 처음으로 확인됐는데 이용식 기자가 취재했습니다.

Recently, a sea turtle that died after swallowing a fishing hook has been confirmed for the first time, reported by journalist Lee Yong-sik.
-(기자) 지난해 7월 울산 바닷가에서 죽은 채 발견된 붉은바다거북입니다.
-(Reporter) This is a red sea turtle found dead at the beach in Ulsan last July.
부검을 해 보니 기도에 물이 찼고 장이 파열됐습니다.

국내 해안에서 낚싯바늘을 삼켜 죽은 바다거북이 확인된 건 이번이 처음입니다.

-(기자) 바다거북 폐사체에 대한 부검은 지난 2017년 처음 시작된 뒤 지난 5년간 모두 62마리를 부검했습니다.

바다거북 협력연구단이 부검 뒤 분석까지 마친 56마리 가운데 몸안에서 플라스틱 쓰레기가 나온 체는 48마리나 됩니다.

해양 쓰레기로 인한 바다거북 폐사가 잇따르자 해양수산부는 폐사 원인에 대한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 바다거북 보호를 위한 정책을 서둘러 마련하기로 했습니다.
