THE WOLF, THE MOTHER, AND HER CHILD
الذئب والأم وطفلها
A hungry Wolf was prowling about in search of food.
Un loup affamé rôde à la recherche de nourriture.
By and by, attracted by the cries of a Child, he came to a cottage.
De temps en temps, attiré par les cris d'un enfant, il arriva à une chaumière.
As he crouched beneath the window, he heard the Mother say to the Child, "Stop crying, do!
وبينما كان يجلس القرفصاء تحت النافذة، سمع الأم تقول للطفل: "توقف عن البكاء، افعل!"
Alors qu'il était accroupi sous la fenêtre, il entendit la Mère dire à l'Enfant : "Arrête de pleurer, fais !
or I'll throw you to the Wolf."
ou je te jette au loup."
Thinking she really meant what she said, he waited there a long time in the expectation of satisfying his hunger.
ظنًا منه أنها تعني حقًا ما قالته، انتظر هناك لفترة طويلة على أمل إشباع جوعه.
Pensant qu'elle était sincère, il attendit longtemps dans l'espoir d'assouvir sa faim.
In the evening he heard the Mother fondling her Child and saying, "If the naughty Wolf comes, he shan't get my little one: Daddy will kill him."
وفي المساء سمع الأم تداعب طفلها وتقول: "إذا جاء الذئب المشاغب، فلن يحصل على صغيري: الأب سوف يقتله".
Le soir, il entend la mère caresser son enfant et dire : "Si le méchant loup vient, il n'aura pas mon petit : papa le tuera."
The Wolf got up in much disgust and walked away: "As for the people in that house," said he to himself, "you can't believe a word they say."
قام الذئب في اشمئزاز شديد ومشى بعيدًا: "أما بالنسبة لأهل ذلك البيت"، قال لنفسه، "لا يمكنك أن تصدق كلمة واحدة مما يقولونه".
Le Loup se leva, dégoûté, et s'éloigna : "Quant aux gens de cette maison, se dit-il, il ne faut pas croire un mot de ce qu'ils disent".
