Mat. 22
Matt. 22
Matt. 22
1 Et respondens Jesus, dixit iterum in parabolis eis, dicens : 2 Simile factum est regnum cælorum homini regi, qui fecit nuptias filio suo.
||||||||||||||||||marriage||
1 And responding, Jesus said to them again in parables, saying: 2 The kingdom of heaven is like a man, a king, who made a marriage feast for his son.
|||||the invited||||they were unwilling|
3 And he sent his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding, and they did not want to come.
||||||to the invited||meal||I have prepared|my bulls|||poultry|have been killed||||prepared|||
4 Again he sent other servants, saying: Tell those who are invited: Behold, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and fattened cattle have been killed, and all things are ready: come to the wedding.
||they neglected|||||house|||||business||the remaining||they held||||with insults|afflicted|
5 But they disregarded it, and went away, one to his farm, another to his business: 6 and the rest seized his servants, and treated them spitefully, and killed them.
|||had heard||||having sent|armies||he destroyed|the murderers|||||he burned
7 But when the king heard of it, he was angry: and sending forth his armies, he destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.

8 Then he said to his servants: The wedding indeed is ready, but they who were invited were not worthy: 9 go therefore to the exits of the ways, and as many as you find, call to the wedding.

10 And his servants went out into the ways and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was filled with guests.

11 But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man not clothed in a wedding garment.

12 And he said to him: Friend, how did you come in here not having a wedding garment?
At ille obmutuit.

But he fell silent.
13 Tunc dicit rex ministris : Ligatis manibus et pedibus ejus, mittite eum in tenebras exteriores : ibi erit fletus et stridor dentium.
|||to the ministers||||||cast him||||||||||
Then the king said to the servants: Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into outer darkness: there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
14 Multi enim sunt vocati, pauci vero electi.

For many are called, but few are chosen.
15 Tunc abeuntes pharisæi, consilium inierunt ut caperent eum in sermone.

15 Then the Pharisees went away, and took counsel to catch him in his speech.

16 And they send their disciples to him with the Herodians, saying: Teacher, we know that you are truthful, and you teach the way of God in truth, and you do not care about anyone: for you do not regard the person of men: 17 tell us therefore what you think, is it lawful to pay the tax to Caesar, or not?
18 Cognita autem Jesus nequitia eorum, ait : Quid me tentatis, hypocritæ ?

18 But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said: Why do you test me, hypocrites?

At illi obtulerunt ei denarium.

20 And Jesus said to them: Whose image is this, and the inscription?
21 Dicunt ei : Cæsaris.

21 They said to him: Caesar's.
|||give back||||||||||
|||||leaving||
22 And those who heard him were amazed, and left him and went away.
|||||||||||resurrection||||||||||dead||||||he should marry||||||he will raise|||
23 On that day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him and asked him, 24 saying: Teacher, Moses said: If a man dies having no son, his brother must marry his wife and raise up offspring for his brother.

25 Now there were with us seven brothers: the first married and died; and having no offspring, left his wife to his brother.

28 In the resurrection, therefore, of which of the seven will she be a wife?

||||||not knowing|the Scriptures||the power|
29 But Jesus answering said to them: You err, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.

31 But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said by God, who said to you: 32 I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?
Non est Deus mortuorum, sed viventium.
|||||of the living
He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.
33 Et audientes turbæ, mirabantur in doctrina ejus.
33 And when the crowds heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.

38 This is the greatest and first commandment.
39 And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
40 In his duobus mandatis universa lex pendet, et prophetæ.

40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

41 But when the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, 42 saying: What do you think about the Christ?

Dicunt ei : David.
43 Ait illis : Quomodo ergo David in spiritu vocat eum Dominum, dicens : 44 Dixit Dominus Domino meo : Sede a dextris meis, donec ponam inimicos tuos scabellum pedum tuorum ?
