VIAGGIO IN RUSSIA – PARTE 5

Ci alziamo alle 7 di mattina, perché il Masterclass comincia molto presto. Sono di pessimo umore. Ho accumulato molta stanchezza negli ultimi giorni, ed il freddo russo – alquanto inaspettato direi – mi ha messo a dura prova. Richard se ne accorge e mi chiede “cosa c'è Luchino?” Ma anche la persona più gentile a questo mondo non riesce a far migliorare il mio umore quando è così nero. Mi capita molto raramente di alzarmi così, ma questo è uno di quei giorni.

Dopo esserci sciacquati la faccia scendiamo giù a consumare la solita colazione, e sulla schermo della televisione stanno dando un altro cartone vecchio di almeno 30 anni. Mi riattacco – quasi con disperazione – alle salsicce e all'insalata russa, masticando quasi svogliato un panino che ho appoggiato sul piatto come contorno. Consumiamo la colazione in fretta, quasi fossimo al servizio militare, e raggiungiamo di nuovo la stanza per vestirci.

Verso le 9.30 arriva, con uno strano ritardo, Sergej Ha chiaramente fretta, considerando che il mio Masterclass comincia alle 10 in punto. Raccogliamo in fretta armi e bagagli e ci dirigiamo verso la macchina. C'è meno neve rispetto al giorno precedente, ma il freddo pungente è rimasto lo stesso. Ci sono i soliti mucchi di neve sui lati della strada, ma ci sono meno persone in giro. Evidente alle 9.40 i Moscoviti sono tutti già giunti sul luogo di lavoro. Parcheggiamo come al solito nel grande parcheggio dell'hotel e ci dirigiamo verso il bar del piano terra. Consumo un rapido caffè, Dina, che intanto ci ha raggiunto, nota il mio cattivo umore. Ma non c'è tempo di pensarci troppo, perché “il dovere incombe”, come si dice.

Saliamo al terzo piano e ci dirigiamo in una stanza laterale È molto più piccola rispetto alla grande sala per le conferenze del giorno precedente, ma è comunque spaziosa. Ci sono 3 o 4 telecamere ai lati, una centrale con un operatore, uno scrittoio su cui appoggiare il computer, un grande schermo e una sorta di lavagna laterale su cui scrivere appunti. Mi piace. Ci sono una trentina di persone nella sala, tra operatori video, organizzatori della conferenza e, ovviamente, publico. Ci sono – scoprirò poi – anche una discreta quantità di persone che lo stanno guardando on-line. Stringo la mano all'interprete prima di cominciare e la ringrazio per il lavoro precedente. Avendo studiato interpretariato, so quanto sia difficile fare un'interpretazione consecutiva di quel genere, e le auguro buon lavoro per le successive 4 ore.

Come il giorno prima, sono a mio agio, sono solo stanco, ma il cattivo umore comincia a dissiparsi, nonostante una stanchezza cronica. Ho preparato questo masterclass per 2 settimane intere, con il prezioso e insostituibile aiuto del mio grande amico Luca Toma, e non vedo l'ora di mostrarne il contenuto al pubblico.

Nella prima parte – 2 ore – parlo di ciò che considero uno degli aspetti più affascinanti nell'apprendimento di una lingua: la fonetica Spiego come un approccio che si impernia sulla pronuncia delle parole come primo passo fondamentale e poi sull'intera frase porti fondamentalmente a problemi di intonazione. La lingua – spiego nel discorso – è come una rete a cui si attaccano le parole. Ogni frase è una rete più piccola in cui gli elementi fonetici non sono una semplice sequenza di segmenti, ma sono una combinazione di elementi che si influenzano fra loro. Sono i cosidetti “aspetti soprasegmentali” di una lingua, un termine che rientra nel contesto più specifico di “prosodia”. Non mi dilungo su termini tecnici, ma mi concentro sull'idea di base: il fatto di aver introdotto la scrittura ha da una parte facilitato l'apprendimento, ma dall'altra lo ha reso più complicato per una lunga serie di motivi. Faccio del mio meglio per spiegarli al pubblico. Offro una serie di esempi pratici per spiegare come l'intonazione veicoli significato, e di come moduliamo la nostra voce in maniera praticamente inconscia. Poi mi concentro su un altro pilastro portante di ogni lingua: il ritmo e l'accento delle singole parole, che conferiscono ad ogni lingua un particolare modo di “fluire”. Alla fine mostro i principi e l'applicazione pratica di ciò che ho definito “analisi fonetica” sulla lingua inglese e do loro un piccolo test da fare. Le 2 ore sono letteralmente volate Il pubblico mi rivolge un po' di domande e mi diverto ad usare finalmente la lavagna per spiegare più in concreto come usare carta e penna per “cogliere” gli aspetti più sfuggenti dell'intonazione inglese. La stanchezza mi è totalmente passata, il discorso mi ha dato una grande carica, ma ho bisogno di un'altra dose di caffè. Scendo nella sala di sotto con Sergej, che ormai mi accompagna dappertutto.

Dopo aver bevuto caffè e un bicchierone d'acqua è tempo di ricominciare con la seconda parte. È una parte non meno affascinante della prima: come imparare le lingue adattando il nostro apprendimento secondo principi cognitivi su cui si basa e funziona il nostro cervello. Come memorizzare le parole, leggere mirando sia alla quantità che alla quantità (quello che in letteratura viene definita “lettura estensiva e intensiva”, e come utilizzare le varie parti del corpo (occhi, orecchie, mani etc). Come trovare materiale adatto al nostro livello ed ai nostri bisogni. E infine mi dilungo sul principio della cosidetta “Spaced time repepition” e sugli studi di Ebbinghaus. Mi sto divertendo sempre di più e non vorrei che finisse più a dir la verità, ma – come si suol dire – tutto ha una fine. Dopo una serie di domande sulla presentazione è finalmente arrivata l'ora di rilassarsi

Appena sceso dal palco e dopo aver ricevuto i complimenti soprattutto da Sergej, che si profonde in grandi parole di elogio – “sei un grande professionista caro Luca” – mi dice con un sorriso a 32 denti – sento tutto d'un botto ripiombare la stanchezza che mi aveva attanagliato fino a quel momento. Mi avvicino a Richard e, dandogli una pacca sulla spalla, gli auguro buona fortuna con il suo Masterclass, il cui argomento principale riguarda il multilinguisimo e bambini. Un argomento molto affascinante e di cui Richard – papà da ormai 5 anni di una splendida e vivace bambina – è esperto indiscusso.

Scendo nella sala ristorante per bere un altro caffè, ma sento le palpebre pesanti come ghigliottine. Dico a Sergej “devo dormire un po'”. Mi dispiace non vedere il masterclass di Richard, ma mi aspetta un lungo viaggio in treno per andare a St.Pietroburgo, e ho bisogno di riposarmi un minimo. Lena è molto gentile e mi trovano una stanza d'albergo all'ultimo piano. È un hotel così grande che è facile perdersi. Mi sistemo in una stanza piuttosto comoda, e mi butto subito sul letto Crollo in un sonno pesante come un macigno

Mi risveglio 3 ore dopo piuttosto stordito, Sergej bussa alla porta e mi dice “è venuta l'ora di andare”. Andiamo al ristorante del piano di sotto e consumiamo la cena finale con Lena, Dina e Sergej, e parliamo di eventuali progetti futuri. Si sono fatte le 21, e ho il treno verso mezzanotte. Devo ancora incontrare Svetlana, è con lei che ho deciso di andare a St.Pietroburgo. Sergej la chiama sul cellulare e decidiamo di incontrarci non lontano dall'hotel, vicino la stazione della metro. Ha cominciato a piovere, ma non mi importa molto, sono elettrizzato all'idea di intraprendere un viaggio nel viaggio, e di vedere la famosa St.Pietroburgo, di cui i miei genitori (e non solo loro) parlano con una discreta ammirazione da anni.

Scendiamo dalla macchina per salutarci. Le nostre strade si separano Richard torna con Sergej e Dina a Serpoxov, mentre io e Svetlana ci apprestiamo ad affrontare il lungo viaggio verso la città dalle notti infinite. Dopo averli salutati calorosamente tutti e tre, e dopo esserci ripromessi di rivederci presto, io e Svetlana troviamo riparo all'interno di uno Starbucks. Il locale è semivuoto, ma accogliente. Ci sediamo ad un tavolino per prendere un caffè. Svetlana opta per un grande cappuccino, mentre io mi prendo un semplice caffè. È stanca quanto me, ma siamo entrambi contenti di andare a St.Pietroburgo. Alla radio scorre una canzone russa dalla melodia lenta e dolce che piace subito ad entrambi. Svetlana chiede all'inserviente il titolo e fortunamente la ragazza se ne ricorda. Abbiamo la nostra colonna sonora per il viaggio

Si sono fatte le 22, ed è ora di andare verso la stazione. Prendiamo la metropolitana. C'è poca gente, e le poche person che si siedono davanti a noi sono piuttosto di cattivo umore. Ho notato che in Russia le persone sulla metro sono di una serietà impressionante, sembrano quasi tristi. Al contrario dell'allegro casino che regna per esempio nella metropolitana francese, soprattutto nelle sere del fine settimana, in cui la gente ritorna da bar e ristoranti piena di una inquietante, ma a tratti divertente felicità alcolica

Raggiungiamo finalmente la stazione, e arriviamo appena in tempo per entrare nel treno, lungo il quale sono disposte, a distanza quasi geometrica, delle donne-controllori, che appunto controllano biglietto e passaporto prima dell'ingresso del treno. Cosa che non succede mai in Italia, in cui il controllore controlla i biglietti dei passeggeri solo una volta che questi sono entrati nel treno. Arriviamo al nostro scompartimento. Ci sono già due persone su due letti disposti uno sopra l'altro. Un signore sulla quarantina in canottiera che legge un giornale, e una ragazza sul letto di sopra che sta parlando al telefono. Il signore ci sente parlare in inglese e ha l'aria quasi contrariata, ma dopo che Svetlana ed io gli rivogliamo parola in russo si dimostra molto tranquillo e socievole, a tratti chiaccherone È l'unica lingua che sa ed è molto felice del fatto che la parliamo anche noi. Parliamo di un po' di tutto. Sul fatto che pochi russi sanno l'inglese, che sapere altre lingue apre le porte al mondo. Ci dice che la maggior parte dei turisti si bevono una vodka alquanto scadente, e che la vodka di qualità non è facile da trovare. Ci parla di Mosca. Sono preso da una strana euforia. Essere in Russia ed essere in grado di capire, conversare, immergermi in un mondo molto diverso mi dà un senso di potenza, e mi riempe di euforia. Se non avessi saputo il russo questo viaggio non sarebbe stato lo stesso

Sono già passate quasi 2 ore da quando siamo entrati nello scompartimento, ma non abbiamo più sonno. Io e Svetlana diciamo buonanotte al signore e andiamo a sederci nel vagone ristorante. Il treno è molto pulito – con grande sorpresa della stessa Svetlana, e il vagone ristorante è molto gradevole, con tappezzeria rossa che orna le sedie ed i tavoli Ci sono un po' di persone, in particolare ci colpisce un gruppo di 3 uomini piuttosto corpulenti che chiacchiera in maniera animata. Svetlana è più vicina e mi dice che stanno parlando di calcio, in un linguaggio piuttosto colorito. “In Russia molti uomini si riducono così mangiando e bevendo senza limiti”, mi dice con un sospiro pieno di frustrazione. “Sapessi nel treno per venire a Mosca..era strapieno di uomini obesi dall'alito fetido e alcolico”. Mi spiega che è un problema russo, e che molti di questi uomini mettono anche le corna alla moglie. “Ah andiamo proprio bene” – dichiaro io. Svetlana mi fa ascoltare alcune delle canzoni che tiene sul suo cellulare. In particolare ce n'è una satirica sulla rapporto d'amore e odio fra l'autore del testo e la sua parte genitale che mi fa morire dalle risate, la riascolto più e più volte Quando scopro una canzone che mi piace, o che mi entusiasma – anche se può sembrare strano dato l'argomento, ma la canzone è veramente esilarante – sono contento come un bambino. Ma non è l'unica canzone a piacermi della compilation di Svetlana. Mi piace la combinazione sorprendente di ogni genere di musica che ha nell'ipod, e in ogni lingua. Russo, italiano, inglese, francese, ce n'è per tutti i gusti. Mi dà l'impressione di essere una ragazza semplice e solare, e al tempo stesso complessa e piena di vita, curiosa, intelligente. Ci beviamo un'altra birra e continuiamo a chiacchierare, e non ci accorgiamo che sono passate già 2 ore da quando ci siamo seduti. Decidiamo che forse è venuto il momento di andare a dormire.

Torniamo finalmente allo scompartimento – sono ormai le 4 di mattina, e ci buttiamo finalmente sul letto dopo esserci lavati i denti. Io su quello di sotto e lei su quello di sopra. Mi metto le cuffie nelle orecchie e ascolto un po' di musica, prima di scivolare di nuovo nelle braccia di Morfeo
