PART 1.3 Caleb Interview — Learn English with Camille
Camille: And what did you do after university?
Caleb: Yes, so after I graduated, um, in 2015, I actually stayed in the Greenville area for a year, and I was a visual merchandiser for a store here in Greenville.
Camille: What does that mean?
Caleb: Um, so a visual merchandiser is basically when you go into a store, say like a clothing store, or, um, really any store, they have someone who… what they call "merchandises" which is they put the store together, and how it looks. So, like for like a clothing store, it would switch out mannequins and put clothing like in different spots in the store to kind of get your attention. Um, and kind of like do things behind the scenes really.
Camille: Yeah, design and things really?
Caleb: Yeah, exactly, yeah, exactly.
Camille: That's fun.
Caleb: Yeah, and so I did that for, um, one, uh, a small business here in Greenville, and actually was doing it a little bit while I was in college, um, and then once I graduated I started doing that and so her store was basically things to do with pottery, um, and so we would hand make, uh, jewelry out of pottery.
Camille: Wow.
Caleb: Um, and clay, not really pottery, but make it out of clay yeah, um, and so I would like set up rings and necklaces, and then we had vintage clothing that we would sell as well, um, so it was a lot of fun, yeah, I love doing that, um, and we would go to like do different shows, um, and different like art places, and sell what we were creating, um, and so it was a lot of fun.
Camille: Wow, and then after that what did you find yourself doing?
Caleb: Yeah, so I did that, um, up until 2016-2017, and I transitioned out of doing that and went into coffee for a brief period, and then I actually moved to the West Coast, um, to Huntington Beach, California.
Camille: Okay. And I was living there and I was a missionary there. Okay, um, and so I lived in a house with 12 other guys.
Camille: Wow.
Caleb: Um, uh we were two blocks from the beach, which was super cool.
Camille: Yeah, that's a dream.
Caleb: Yeah, it's super cool, and we could, we lived on 14th street...
Camille: Okay.
Caleb: And our office where we worked from was in downtown Huntington, so we could literally just walk to the offices, and really downtown Huntington is one main street, with a bunch of just different stores and stuff like that there and offices. So, it was really cool in the evenings I would just go, and I like made it a practice to go, and just walk at night, walk to the pier, and just kind of like rest, because it was, it's just peaceful in the evening.
Camille: Would you see the sunset?
Caleb: Um, yeah. That is like my favorite part. And then some mornings we would get up and just like, we're like let's go see the sunrise, and so we would go and...
Camille: I bet you miss that.
Caleb: I do, I do, because I mean, you have to kind of drive to like a really nice place like the mountains, upper in the mountains, to see like a nice sunrise, sometimes I feel like here in South Carolina, which isn't bad I mean, it's not super far away but…
