PART 2.1 Caleb Interview — Learn English with Camille
Camille: What do you like most about this part of the world?
Caleb: I love South Carolina because it's very homey, and very just like it's very family oriented, um, whereas in California, I wouldn't say it's very family like oriented and like homey. Um, and maybe that's just because I've lived in South Carolina longer than I did in California, um, but it's definitely a lot more homier, there's a lot more little small coffee shops that you can go hang out at. Yeah, um, and just yeah, it's just a place that you can easily call home, yeah.
Camille: Have you traveled outside of the USA?
Caleb: Yeah, I actually have.
Camille: Okay.
Caleb: So, um my older brother lived in Honduras for eight years.
Camille: Wow.
Caleb: And so I would go every summer, me and my family, and we would go visit him for like two or three weeks at a time.
Camille: Aww, so fun, I've never been to Honduras.
Caleb: Yeah, it's beautiful, I love the area that they were in, it's, um, it's called El Progreso and so it's… it's one of the larger cities in, um, Honduras, uh, and so they were living there, and it was nice. We would go and just hang out, it's just such a different pace of life too, even from The States, um state being, stateside is totally different than being in Honduras. Everyone's just relaxed, and they're that's… that's everyone! Um, at least that was my experience there.
Camille: Did they speak a little bit of English there?
Caleb: Yeah, they did a little bit, um, but I loved it because my my older brother is fluent in Spanish, um, and his wife is that she's also fluent, but when we would go he would like force me to like speak at restaurants, and like try to speak.
Camille: Oh, so you know some?
Caleb: Yeah, I do know some, I can understand it and I can read it more than I can speak it, um, and that's just from studying it in high school, and then studying it in university a little bit. But then really being thrown into having to use like Spanish.
Camille: Right.
Caleb: My brother was like, I'm not gonna communicate for you like I want you to do it.
Camille: Yeah.
Caleb: So, he really pushed me, and that was like that was hard, but it was good. Um, so I've been to Honduras, I've been to Mexico and spent a few weeks there, um, and then I most recently in the last two years went to Haiti, and spent, uh, probably a week there.
Camille: Okay. Yeah, that's amazing. Is there any country that calls your name?
Caleb: Yeah, um honestly, I've always wanted to go visit Australia.
Camille: Okay.
Caleb: Like the continent is like of itself like is I... it just intrigues me, um, and so I'm very intrigued by Australia, I don't know why, um, yeah, Australia for sure. Um, let's see, European countries I would say, hmm, I would say, I don't know Switzerland,
Camille: Okay, yeah.
Caleb: Yeah.
Camille: Okay, yeah, I've been, it's beautiful, the mountain and the lakes.
Caleb: Yes, yeah, I feel like the… the landscape is what calls me there, it's just like, even like the snow, and like thinking about snow, yeah, and just the beauty, because I feel like a lot of pictures that we see like here, or like, we don't experience a lot of snow here.
Camille: No, we don't.
Caleb: And if we do, it's like ice more, yeah, than snow.
Camille: Yes, yes.
Caleb: Um, and so I really feel like the landscape of Switzerland would be just beautiful. And I've always wanted to go to Spain, which I know you've lived there.
Camille: Yes.
Caleb: I've always wanted to go to Spain, so...
Camille: Well, I hope you get to all of these places.
Caleb: I know, yeah.
Camille: That's amazing.
