-(앵커) 국방부가 민간 인력인 군무원들에게 권총을 지급할 계획인 것으로 확인됐습니다. 저희가 관련 문건을 단독으로 입수했는데요. 총을 받으면 이제 사격 훈련도 해야 할 텐데 군무원들 사이에서는 벌써부터 불만의 목소리가 나오고 있습니다. 민간인들에게 총을 주는 게 맞는 결정이냐, 모자란 병력을 민간인으로 메우려는 거 아니냐, 이런반응인데요.

홍의표 기자가 단독으로 전해드리겠습니다.

-(기자) 부대의 행정 시설과 무기 관리 등을 맡는 군무원. 비전투 업무는 민간에 맡긴다는 국방 개혁 2.0에 따라 현재 4만 2000여 명에 달합니다. MBC가 확보한 육군의 군무원 개인 화기 편성 기준 문건입니다. 전시 임무를 고려해 생존성 보장이 필요한 직위에 총기를 지급한다고 언급했습니다. 군무원 중 업무를 고려해 권총을 지급하겠다는 내용입니다. 우선 군단급 이하 일선 부대의 군무원들이 지급 대상이고 정책 부서 등의 군무원은 제외됩니다. 육군의 경우 소속 군무원 2만여 명 가운데 절반인 1만 명에게 총기가 지급될 것으로 보입니다. 지급 대상자들은 총기 소지 교육과사격 훈련도 받아야 할 것으로 보입니다. 군무원들은 자신들도 모르는 사이에 추진된 총기 지급에 격앙돼 있습니다.

-(인터뷰) 군무원에게 총을 쥐여서 군인을 지키게 하는 것, 이게 과연 맞다고 생각하는지 저는 의문이고요.

-(기자) 군무원 시험 커뮤니티에서도 이럴 거면 군인을 더 뽑아야 한다, 군무원을 입맛에 맞게 쓰려는 것 아니냐는 글을 올리고 있습니다. 이미 일선 부대에서는 군무원들이 사병과 당직을 서기 시작했고 위병소에서 경계 근무를 서는 곳도있습니다. 한 해 4000명 넘게 들어오던 학군 장교도 올해 3500명까지 떨어지는 등부족한 군 인력을 총을 지급받은 군무원으로 채우는 것 아니냐는 의문도제기됩니다.

-(인터뷰) 병력 수가 줄어드니까 저희를 군인화시키는 거 아닌가 점점 그 선이 없어지는 거를 느끼죠, 저희는.

-(기자) 오늘 또 군 검찰 군무원 관련부서들과 회의를 한 국방부는 여론을 수렴하는 단계라며 지급 규모나 시기가 확정된 건 아니라고 설명했습니다.
