PART 2.4 Melodie
Melodie: So it was, about a year later we had a tiny house coffee shop on the property called “Scandi Tiny Coffee”, and we were running it and I've never run a business, I didn't, I was not prepared for that in Nursing School, so it was very, it's a very much of an experience.
Camille: Yeah, what are some of the biggest lessons you've learned from this whole process of your tiny tiny home cafe?
Melodie: Yeah, wow, there's a lot. I feel like working with people, you learn a lot about, um, not everything you think is important, like it's actually the process is more important, and letting go of your ideals, and being like it's okay to do somebody else's idea, even though, maybe you don't think it's the best idea, but it's part of the process of relationship, and having a good atmosphere at a business, I would say that's a big one. Um, I mean, money stuff, wow, just like managing money, learning how to make a profit, like all the little things that go into a business, and you have to keep your eye on everything, like it doesn't just, you don't just flow money in, you know. You gotta, you gotta watch the money that goes in, and make sure it makes sense to the money that goes out, and so I learned a lot of things.
Camille: Would you say that it's a passion for you, the tiny home cafe, is it something that you love to do?
Melodie: I would say the part of it, that's a passion, is, um, impacting people's lives. So, that's another thing I learned about the business, is like having your values up front, something I learned from your husband actually.
Camille: Okay, yes, that's amazing.
Melodie: So, if you... you in the beginning, like why are you doing this? You have your values, and you have them lined up, and everything that you bring into the business, comes from those values. So, um, for us, one of our big values was that the person that you're, that is standing in front of you, that you are impacting them in a positive way, so that I would say is a big passion. And the other one of our values was that we inspire creativity with people, so we put them in a beautiful environment, that is very creatively designed, and they don't even understand why they feel inspired, but they do, like they feel at home, they feel like they can be creative, they feel comfortable, you know. They have a delicious drink, they have a beautiful environment. So I'd say that's my passion, more than coffee. so…
Camille: Yeah, creating beautiful spaces, which you're really good at.
Melodie: Thank you.
Camille: We had a hard time choosing where to even shoot this video, we're in Melodie's house right now, because every little corner is so amazing, really.
