اتجه جحا نحو النافذة، وفتحها بهدوء، ونظر إلى الحديقة. كان الظلام شديدا . رأى جحا جسما كبيرا وسط الظلام، يتحرك ويتمايل، فقال لزوجته : إنه ضخم الجسم، كبير جدا . قالت زوجته: هيا يا جحا، أطلق عليه النار. ماذا تنتظر ؟ هيا قبل أن يهرب.

أخرج جحا بندقيته من النافذة، وأطلق الرصاص على الجسم الذي رآه وسط الظلام، ثم قال وهو مسرور : لقد أصبته.. أصبته ، لم يتحرك، ولم يهرب. هيا نرجع إلى النوم، وفي الصباح نراه. وعاد جحا وزوجته إلى السرير ، فقالت الزوجة : هل أنت متأكد ، أنك أصبته؟ قال جحا : أنا متأكد جدا وفي الصباح - إن شاء الله - ستعرفين الحقيقة.

في الصباح استيقظ جحا من نومه، وذهب إلى الحديقة مسرعا، وخلفه زوجته، فرأى ثوبه وقد مزقه الرصاص شكر جحا ربه، وحمده على رحمته، فتعجبت زوجته، وسألته : لماذا أنت مسرور ؟! ولم كل هذا الشكر ؟ قال لها : ألا ترين الرصاص، قد مزق هذا التوب، وخرقه؟! لو كنت داخل الثوب لمت قتيلا! الحمد لله . لقد قتل الرصاص ثوبي، ولم يقتلني.
