1 Psalmus David, cum esset in deserto Idumææ.
|David|when, with|was||desert|of Edom
1 Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Idumaea.
2 Deus, Deus meus, ad te de luce vigilo.
||||||at dawn|I watch
2 God, my God, I look to you from the light.
Sitivit in te anima mea ; quam multipliciter tibi caro mea !
||||||"many ways"|||
My soul thirsted for you; how many times for you, my dear!
3 In terra deserta, et invia, et inaquosa, sic in sancto apparui tibi, ut viderem virtutem tuam et gloriam tuam.
||"desert land"||pathless||In a dry land||||"I appeared"||||||||
3 In a land that was desolate, impassable, and waterless, I appeared to you in the holy place, that I might see your power and your glory.
4 Quoniam melior est misericordia tua super vitas, labia mea laudabunt te.
||||||lives||||
5 Sic benedicam te in vita mea, et in nomine tuo levabo manus meas.
||||||||||"I will lift"||
6 Sicut adipe et pinguedine repleatur anima mea, et labiis exsultationis laudabit os meum.
|fat and oil||fat and richness|"be filled"||||||"will praise"||
6 Let my soul be filled with fat and fatness, and my mouth shall praise with lips of exultation.
7 Si memor fui tui super stratum meum, in matutinis meditabor in te.
||||||||"in the morning"|"I will meditate"||
7 If I remember you on my bed, I will meditate on you in the mornings.
8 Quia fuisti adjutor meus, et in velamento alarum tuarum exsultabo.
|"you have been"||||||||
8 Because you have been my helper, and I will rejoice in the cover of your wings.
9 Adhæsit anima mea post te ; me suscepit dextera tua.
9 My soul clings to you; your right hand received me.
10 Ipsi vero in vanum quæsierunt animam meam : introibunt in inferiora terræ ; 11 tradentur in manus gladii : partes vulpium erunt.
|||||||||"lower parts"||"will be delivered"|||"of the sword"||foxes' prey|
10 But they have sought my soul in vain: they will enter the lower parts of the earth; 11 they shall be delivered into the hands of the sword: they shall be the parts of foxes.
12 Rex vero lætabitur in Deo ; laudabuntur omnes qui jurant in eo : quia obstructum est os loquentium iniqua.
|||||"will be praised"|||swear by him||||"stopped up"|||speaking unjust things|
12 But the king will rejoice in God; All those who swear by it will be praised, because the mouth of those who speak unjustly is stopped.
